4 Items Princesses Always Pack for NYC
What's that you say? You want more stories about royals? Well, ask and you shall receive. While Meghan Markle has been shying away from press while on maternity leave—and rightfully so—I've been chomping at the bit to see some great royal outfits. Kate Middleton has definitely been delivering lately, but I've also taken the opportunity to walk down memory lane. I've broken down Princess Grace's favorite wardrobe basics and Princess Diana's best vacation looks, and now I decided to set off to discover what royals consistently wear while traveling to NYC.
Princess Charlene of Monaco and Meghan Markle, for instance, are on the same page about packing their best black slouchy boots for NYC. (Markle memorably wore hers to celebrate her highly publicized baby shower in New York.) Princess Diana and Queen Silvia of Sweden both were photographed in New York wearing cap-toe pumps, while black skinny jeans have also been a requirement for royals in the Big Apple. Scroll down to see the four items princesses and queens have loved to wear in New York City.
Slouchy Boots
Royals love sleek, sophisticated, pointy-toe pumps, but when traveling to NYC, they love switching things up and wearing slouchy boots—with head-to-toe dark outfits per NYC's unwritten fashion rule, of course.

On Meghan Markle: Victoria Beckham Tailored Slim Coat ($3085); Hatch The Nearly Skinny Maternity Jeans ($248); Stella McCartney bag; Tamara Mellon Kindred Mid Calf 105 Boots ($695)
Black Skinny Jeans
A trip to the Big Apple would not be complete without arguably the most versatile wardrobe staple: black skinny jeans. In the past, both Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have styled them similarly in NYC, teaming them with knee-length coats and simple pumps.

Long Black Dress
It's no secret that New York girls love head-to-toe black—something royals like Princess Beatrice of York and Princess Madeleine of Sweden definitely are aware of while making appearances in the city.

Cap-Toe Pumps
It's no wonder why royals love cap-toe pumps, as they're a perennial classic. The late Princess Diana and the current Queen of Sweden both wore the timeless shoes in NYC, so you can be sure we're taking notes.

Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
