All the Expensive-Looking Wardrobe Basics I Like Have This Detail in Common
One more time for the people in the back: You don't have to spend a lot on your basics to achieve an expensive-looking outfit. I, for one, am perpetually on a budget, so I'm always on the lookout for these more "special" closet staples that will make the most impact in my closet, which is why I'm highlighting one detail that always makes wardrobe basics look luxe no matter what: ribbing. Whether it's a standard ribbed tee, a little cardigan, or even a swimsuit, the textured effect makes any clothing item appear more elevated than the non-textured versions next to it.
While ribbing is nothing new, I came to this realization recently because I've noticed it popping up more and more, especially in previously uncharted territories. We've shared how ribbed knitwear is a growing loungewear trend that's well-suited to our new WFH lifestyle, but now I'd like to point out that ribbing is finding its way onto items like swimsuits and biker shorts, too, making them extra chic.
To show you what I mean, I'm listing all the best ribbed clothing items broken down by category along with my favorite styling ideas, so you can get on board with this growing trend while it's taking off.
Tanks and Tees
Ribbed tanks and tees are the bread and butter of a fashion girl's closet and the base to so many cool outfits.
Dresses
Ribbed dresses, especially tank dresses, are getting more attention right now and seeing how comfortable and easy to wear they are, we can see why.
Cardigans
Cardigans are one of those trends that simply won't quit, so next time you reach for one try out a ribbed version to add more interest to your outfit.
Swimsuits
Textured swimsuits are popping up left and right in the prettiest new colors and trendy cuts that are sure to stand out from the rest of your collection.

Shorts
If, like me, your sweatpants have given way to more hot weather-friendly bike shorts as a loungewear staple, then these comfy ribbed shorts deserve your attention.
Lounge Pants
Ribbed loungewear as opposed to any other kind of loungewear, will almost always look expensive. You can spend $30 or $300 on an item and yet the ribbing gives off the same luxurious quality, every single time.
