Welcome to The Great Try-On. We're gearing up for fall, and that includes freshening up our wardrobes with new pieces. We got to try on the best fall pieces from some of your favorite brands and documented it all from our own personal "dressing rooms" so that you can see how they actually look IRL. We hope that our photos and candid reviews will help you shop for fall wardrobe builders and trend-forward pieces that you'll wear over and over this season and beyond.

At Who What Wear, we have a dedicated Slack channel for our favorite finds, and lately, Reformation has been mentioned a lot. We've been fans of the brand basically since its inception, and we've been especially loving the current direction of the designs. Yes, the brand still offers the classic Ref dress (think floral, body-skimming, alluring frocks) if that's what you're in the market for, but I'm taken with the styles that feel like an expansion of the brand's DNA. Accordingly, I called in my favorites to test-drive IRL, from moto boots to an oversize sweater. Not all the items I tried made the cut, as I wanted to steer you toward the brightest stars of Reformation's fall lineup. Keep reading to see my favorite picks.

8. Reformation Zada Dress

My review: I'm writing this story in the midst of Paris Fashion Week, and after seeing rosettes pop up on many of the runways for spring 2024, it seems the trend will see us through another season. I personally don't have a solid mini-length LBD, so I was immediately drawn to this cap-sleeve number with the rosette detail. IRL, the fabric feels thick and expensive, and I like how the rosette blends in, giving the detail a subtle spin. The length was also perfect for my 5'4'' frame—not too short or too long.

7. Reformation Danni Trench

My review: When assembling the rack of Reformation items to try on in the office, my colleague with very good taste wandered over, and this was the first item she was drawn to. This jacket feels like a car coat and a trench had a baby. I think it feels a tad fresher than the very classic trench with the belted waist and storm flap. The color naturally leans more trench, but if you prefer the car-coat energy, the gray version is the pick for you.

6. Reformation Jadey Sweater

My review: Curiously, I don't own any V-neck oversize sweaters, so I was excited to try this one. It checks all the cool-girl-sweater boxes. Fabulous neutral color that can be paired with brown or black? Check. Laid-back, relaxed fit? Check. I can also confirm it looks great layered with a crew-neck tee underneath. If you already have this kind of sweater, you can probably skip this pick, but if you have a wardrobe gap in this department, I would bet a lot of money that you'll get consistent use out of the Jadey Sweater.

5. Reformation Wilda Mules

My review: I'll be up-front: I have a soft spot for red shoes. If I'm looking to step out of my white, black, and brown shoe rotation, it's red I'm reaching for. Also, kitten heels are a go-to for me—comfortable yet professional and polished. Basically, the Wilda Mules were a shoo-in (sorry) to get a high ranking. I do wish the toe box was a tad more elongated for a slightly high-fashion silhouette, but the "bent" heel shape adds extra cool points. Overall, I call these a very solid win.

4. Reformation Layla Skirt

My review: Ready to be the artsy girl in the room? Look no further than this skirt. The abstract print is deeply cool, and designing a good print is hard to do. I also love the lingerie-like scallop on the elastic waist, which adds a really pretty detail that you'll only notice IRL. The only con is I found it isn't a wrinkle-resistant fabric. But if you're anything like me, you break out your steamer several times a week, so this doesn't create much of a hang-up.

3. Reformation Porter Jacket

My review: We called the scarf-coat trend last year, and the look is still as chic as ever. The scarf attaches to the coat with a button, so you can wear each item on its own if you like. Let me do girl math for a minute: A removable scarf means it's basically three looks for the price of one, right? I was also pleasantly surprised with the quality of this outerwear piece, especially for the price. It also comes in gray, which would be my color of choice, though the pictured cream is very pretty too.

2. Reformation Francesca Boots

My review: These boots are straight-up fantastic. Not a single note. The hardware feels luxury-level. The style will add a bit of edge to your look, but not so much edge that they feel out of place in settings like a more polished office or your grandma's house. I also like the height boost without sacrificing comfort—10/10.

1. Reformation Florentina Top

My review: Flirty/date-night/statement tops are a hard category to crack. In my experience, tops that look great with jeans, are flattering, and are visually interesting are tough to find! That's why I ranked this off-the-shoulder number as my favorite pick. It's under $100 and is equal parts alluring and sophisticated. The fabric is thick and luxurious too. My only practical note is that if you raise your arms above your head, you have to pull the bit that folds back down over your chest. Frankly, though, it's not like I would choose this top to play basketball!
