Suddenly, All of the Coolest People Are Wearing Red Cardigans
I'm going to let you in on a secret. Though we have up-to-the-minute knowledge of the best new designer garments and luxury accessories in the world, there's only one thing that the Who What Wear UK team are currently obsessing over, and that is cherry red cardigans. I had, in fact, already pitched this idea for a news story earlier this week, and as the days went by, the team's quest to track down the perfect specimen grew evermore urgent (see the below snapshot from one of our trend channels on Slack).
Ushered in by some of our favourite celebrities including Jennifer Lawrence and Kendall Jenner, the red knitwear trend has been bubbling up recently, and is spreading with the arrival of bright red cardigans at high-end and high-street brands alike. The transitional layering solution our wardrobes have been crying out for, a bright red cardigan adds the perfect dose of colour and vibrancy to an everyday outfit.
On Lucy Williams: &Daughter Ada Geelong Crewneck Cardigan in Red (£335)
By juxtaposing the fiery crimson shade and placing it on a modest button-down cardigan, the perfect fresh knitwear trend was born. A piece that feels accessible, easy to wear and like it's already a familiar piece in your wardrobe, A/W 23's red cardigans have struck style gold.
Influencer Lucy Williams recently gave us the perfect example of how to wear a red cardigan (see above), styling it with slouchy black trousers and snake-skin flats, and many of my colleagues have been referencing this look as one they want to replicate immediately. It would appear that our fashion-forward readers are already in love too, as we've noticed many shoppers snapping up Reformation's Clara style in the past few days.
Talking of Reformation and its popular red cardigan, it wasn't so long ago that we mentally bookmarked this double cashmere look from the same brand via Abisola Omole. The idea of a twinset has never been fresher, and although red is a trending shade for winter this year, we all know how brilliant this co-ord will look throughout every festive season for years to come.
The lipstick-red cardigan is already a tried-and-true staple for many Parisians—in the above image, Melodie Bance adds a little extra pizzazz with a skinny belt and combines her cardi with flared jeans and a wool coat. This is a neater take on the trending piece for those of you who may want to restyle your cardigan for different vibes.
Newly inspired by Williams and co to hunt-down the perfect red cardigan, I've sifted through the internet to find the very best styles available to shop right now. Read on to shop my edit. Race you to the checkout.
