From Picnics to Rooftop Drinks, A+ Outfit Ideas for Socialising In 2021
Socialising is now permitted again, however seeing a friend requires more planning than ever. Even your local Italian has waiting lists to rival Gloria and finding a six-person beer garden table for Bank Holiday is like securing Glastonbury tickets. It requires research and often dedication to the cause (we're talking about sitting outside in nine layers in the rain for a catch up coffee). Now our notoriously stroppy weather plays such a big part of our social lives as we can only hang out outdoors, our outfits require some careful consideration too.
Firstly, you need layers for any evening plans so don't pack away that puffer coat just yet. Below we've charted five ways many are socialising right now from picnics to al fresco dinner dates, and provided some inspiration for how to dress for these occasions. Many of us are simply desperate to dress up, so it's all about the mix—wear your printed joyful dress with sensible sandals, or your Friday night party top with a practical cardigan.
Ready for a summer of fun? Keep scrolling for five ways we will be socialising in 2021, and ideas for what to wear.
1. Celebratory Picnics
Now we're able to sit in green spaces with five pals and snacks, picnic season is in full swing. This is how many will be marking hen parties, big birthdays and other celebrations this spring, and so will be dressing up to sit in a local park. Opt for a printed, but comfortable, summer dress, practical sandals and a tote bag big enough for said snacks.

2. Al Fresco Dining
It's a complete novelty to go to a restaurant, but a night dining outside in the UK doesn't come without its complications. Layering is key, and so jeans, a nice top and a blazer makes a perfect base for under blanket scarves and puffer coats.

3. Day Trip to the Beach
We won't be going on a beach holiday anytime soon, and so the British seaside has never been so appealing. This isn't California, so linen trousers, jeans, jumpers and midi dresses are what you need instead of a bikini sarong. You can still play with the nautical theme with stripes and a blue colour palette.

4. Countryside Walk or Getaway
City dwellers in particular will have been craving space, and so a day in the great outdoors has never been so appealing. Embrace the spirit of cottage core with gingham prints and nostalgic prairie dresses.

5. Rooftop Drinks With Friends
As we are all socialising outdoors, terraces and rooftop bars have never been so in demand. If you're going for cocktails on a rooftop, why not have fun and opt for a printed going-out dress and statement sunglasses. Just don't forget a big jumper, too.
