Rachel McAdams Jokes That She's Still "Haunted" by Mean Girls
It was 14 years ago that we were presented with arguably one of the best known (and most quoted) chick flicks of all time: Mean Girls. So it was also 14 years ago that we were introduced to North Shore High School queen bee Regina George (played by Rachel McAdams). Aside from offering up a slew of epic one-liners (thank you for those), George's character had a lasting effect on the McAdams's career, as well—and quite possibly kick-started it.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, McAdams opened up about her time playing what may be her most iconic role to date: Regina George. When asked if a day has gone by where someone hasn't reminded her of her Mean Girls character, McAdams responded with a somewhat hilarious answer.
"Does Regina George haunt me every day? She does have that quality," she told The New York Times. But that doesn't mean she isn't thankful for the role. In fact, McAdams explained that she actually has Miss George to thank for giving her "longevity."
"I'm forever grateful to Tina Fey and Mark Waters. I remember when I read it, I called my agent right away and said, 'I will play any part in this, please, please, please,'" she told NYT. "I was at the beginning of my career, and it was a lofty thing out there, that I really, really, really wanted to do. I'm always looking for larger-than-life characters, which is probably why I like playing villains. They get away with so much."
Is anyone else in the mood to watch Means Girls now?
