There are no new prints, and Miranda Priestly was right when she rolled her eyes at florals not being groundbreaking. In fact, I’ll expand further: neither are polka dots, tie-dye or ’70s-inspired prints. But those are exactly the print trends we’re looking at for this coming 2020 spring/summer season. The trick, however, is how designers have interpreted them. Amid a sea of minimalism, seeing bold new takes on prints for the coming season is a welcome break from the muted toned monotony.
While on the one side of fashion we have plenty of designers giving pared-back looks on the other is vibrant looks. From Marc Jacobs and Richard Quinn to Gucci and Balenciaga, there are some genuinely fun prints I’m looking forward to this season. 1. JUNGLE

According to buyers at Net-a-Porter, the Versace jungle print is one they’ve backed more than any other print for the coming season. But if you’re not into the Versace look (or simply don’t have the budget for it), there are other options. Ideal for wearing in high summer or on holiday with a mojito in hand.

2. POLKA DOTS
Gucci spring/summer 2020 runway
Ever since Christian Dior revealed the polka dot on his classic hourglass dresses, we’ve been obsessed with them. It adds a certain level of polish to any outfit, thanks to its uniform nature. But while last year was all about that Zara dress, this season is more about how to wear them in a fresh way. Think gentle white spots backed by a bold green or dresses with oversized shoulders bedecked with the classic black and white.

3. TIE-DYE
Dior spring/summer 2020 runway
Once reserved for hoodies, these days, tie-dye is very much the high-fashion print. Seen at Proenza Schouler for a few seasons on mesh pieces, more recently, it’s Dior’s turn to apply this print to trousers, skirts and jackets. And if you’re still more of a lover of the traditional surfer style, fear not, as Versace has a grown-up ’80s-inspired tie-dye sweatshirt.

4. VINTAGE FLORALS
Marc Jacobs spring/summer 2020 runway
One of my favourite shows from last season was Marc Jacobs exceptionally beautiful runway. It was a celebration of print, colours, and gorgeous ’70s-style silhouettes. One of the standout prints was also vintage in style with over-the-top boldly coloured florals. Expect to see this everywhere come summer.

5. DELICATE FLORALS
Oscar de la Renta spring/summer 2020 runway
Small florals are underrated, quite frankly. The more delicate print is best worn on kaftan-style frocks and sweeping maxi slip dresses as seen at Stella McCartney.
