Princess Diana's Vacation Outfits Are Actually Very 2019
We're certainly spoiled for choice when it comes to royals with great style. We regularly follow Kate Middleton's polished outfits, Meghan Markle's evolving style, and Queen Rania's fashion choices, as well as royals from other parts of the globe. But as much as we love the modern-day monarchy, we still can't resist poring over images from late royals who left lasting impressions, including Grace Kelly and, of course, Princess Diana.
The latter is our subject du jour because of her impeccably stylish vacation outfits that would look right at home in 2019. For instance, she wore a striking leopard dress while on holiday on Necker Island in 1990, and we wouldn't hesitate to wear the exact same look thirty years later. She also wore stylish vacation outfits in Mallorca, on a cruise in Scotland, and on her honeymoon—each look as enviable as the last. Scroll down to see Princess Diana's best summer vacation outfits and shop new versions for yourself.
Pastel Yellow
Princess Diana wore a chic blouse and pants in matching pale yellow shades while on holiday in Mallorca, Spain, in 1987. Take note and test-drive the fresh color this summer.
Leopard Print
Princess Diana looked impossibly chic in leopard on Necker Island in 1990. A leopard dress will never go out of style, and this outfit is certainly proof.
Floral Dress
Here, the newly-minted Princess of Wales enjoyed her honeymoon with Prince Charles on the Royal Yacht Britannia in 1981. Her pretty floral dress is still chic in 2019—but would you expect anything less from the style icon?
Black One-Piece
This is how to do swimwear like a royal: wear a classic, no-fuss black one-piece swimsuit. Here, Princess Diana was snapped on Nevis island in the Caribbean in 1993.
Graphic Tee
In 1990, Princess Diana and Prince Charles brought the whole family on King Juan Carlos of Spain's yacht in Mallorca, Spain, where she wore a fun graphic tee that could easily be worn thirty years later.
Bold Plaid
Photographed leaving the Royal Yacht Britannia in Scotland after an August 1987 cruise, Princess Diana looked impeccable in a plaid skirt set.

Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 13 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible. Outside of work, she loves tennis, classic rock, traveling, and smothering her dog with affection.
