Getting a close read on the staying power of a trend is not always a snap. Time is usually the determining factor, but if you play it safe and wait to see which trends have legs, you run the risk of being woefully passé. The trend game is a gamble for us all, novice or pro, but don’t let that stop you from playing.
One litmus test we use to tell whether a trend’s the real deal or not is by leaning on the It girls who live and breathe fashion, and can therefore dole out sage style advice we can apply across the changing seasons. One such expert is Annabelle Fleur of Viva Luxury, who we tapped to share intel on the trends that will continue to rule your wardrobe well into spring. Her top takeaway when it comes to giving your wardrobe a transitional update? "I’ve always felt that pre-spring collections offer a slightly more feminine and colorful approach, and I love to incorporate these softer pieces into my winter wardrobe,” the blogger shares.
Keep reading for her breakdown of spring trends to keep on you radar, and then shop them all on bloomingdales.com.
Trend #1: Cold Shoulder
WHO WHAT WEAR: Why is the cold-shoulder silhouette an It trend for spring?ANNABELLE FLEUR: I practically live in denim come springtime, and what I love about [the cold-shoulder] trend in particular is that it tends to pair so well with practically any jean style imaginable. For a casual everyday look, you can opt for a pair of denim shorts, gladiator sandals, and a cute crossbody, but you can easily dress up an off-the-shoulder top with tailored bottoms like wide-leg pants, for example, [along with] a pair of heels and a clutch.WWW: How would you transition a cold shoulder piece from day to night?AF: Generally speaking, when it comes to dressing up off-the-shoulder tops, I go the accessories route. For daytime, I would pair them with a cute pair of flats and a crossbody bag, but for night, I’d go with a pair of high heels and a structured bag or a clutch.
Trend #2: Floral Bombers
WWW: What makes this bomber jacket trend interesting to you?AF: I’ve always liked the combination of sporty and feminine elements, and floral bomber jackets are a great example of that. [They’re] extremely versatile. What I love about floral bomber jackets the most is the fact that they do a great job elevating your everyday staples but also work well for night [when] paired with dressier pieces.WWW: A statement jacket is a smart third piece. How will your spring wardrobe incorporate them?AF: Personally, I love pairing statement jackets with über-feminine pieces like lace dresses and flowy maxi skirts for spring because they add just the right amount of casual cool and nonchalant elegance to dressy pieces and also give outfits a very modern look and feel.
Trend #3: Embroidered Denim
WWW: When shopping for embroidered denim pieces, what’s the most important thing to look out for?AF: I would suggest paying special attention to the embroidery. If bold is the name of your game, then definitely go for it, but if you’re just trying it out, I would suggest looking for embroidered pieces with slightly more subtle colors.WWW: Any style tips for first-time shoppers?AF: Embroidered denim tends to create a rather bold look, so normally I treat these pieces as a focal point of a look, which is why I often combine them with solid colors and neutral accessories.
Trend #4: Feminine Shapes
WWW: Why are feminine pieces key to achieving a well-balanced wardrobe?AF: Feminine details do a great job balancing out tougher, edgier pieces; [they] add softness, polish, and sophistication to outfits. I love a V-neck poplin bell sleeve because it adds the perfect touch of playfulness and drama to an otherwise classic blouse.WWW: What trends would you pair alongside this one?AF: I love pairing this trend with embroidered denim. For example, you could opt for a bell-sleeve blouse under an embroidered denim jacket to have just a bit of that romantic sleeve peeking out, but I also love the way it looks worn with embroidered jeans for a cute daytime ensemble.
Trend #5: Cutout Details
WWW: Are details important when it comes to swimwear?AF: I’ve always believed in the power of details. They add that element of interest that tends to transform and elevate pieces to the next level. A one-piece is such a classic shape, and cutouts add the perfect peekaboo element to create a bold and modern look.WWW: So can the one-piece suit make a comeback?AF: I definitely think that the one-piece is making a comeback. Aside from the fact that it’s incredibly flattering, this season there are so many gorgeous styles to choose from. [From] bold colors and prints to cutouts and high-neck styles, I really believe there is a style out there for everyone. I also love the fact that one-piece suits can be worn out paired with a cute pair of denim shorts and strappy sandals for day, or with cropped jeans and heels for night.
