Prada Just Made Ugly School Shoes a Surprising Fashion Item
Every so often, a trend makes me feel very nostalgic for years' past. The recent hairclip trend made me wish I was a carefree 6-year-old again. When polka dots are prevalent, I'm always reminded of the chic red dress my mum wore in the '90s, and now that derby shoes are back in style, I can't help thinking about my time in junior school. The likes of Prada and Proenza Schouler are making fashion girls revisit clompy brogues, reminiscent of the styles that we'd buy in Clarks every September in the '90s.
Though be warned: These are nothing like the school shoes you used to own. Adding a decidedly fashion-forward twist, the 2019 derby shoe comes with new details. Prada's loafers have an instantly recognizable chunky tread sole, and Proenza Schouler's come with a contrasting topstitch.
