Lingerie is a phenomenon celebrated all over the world, but until recently, I was unaware that no one celebrates lingerie as well as Italians do. I had the pleasure of attending the F/W 18/19 runway show of one of the most popular lingerie brands in Italy, Intimissimi. As if walking the streets of Verona, eating gelato, and getting VIP treatment from the lovely team there wasn't enough, I also got to chat one-on-one with world-renowned It girl and Italian superstar Chiara Ferragni about all things lingerie. Immediately upon my arrival, Ferragni stood to greet me, wearing a sheer, long-sleeve black Intimissimi bodysuit and sleek black trousers that instantly had me second-guessed my outfit of choice for the day.
But we pretty quickly got to talking, at which point I asked about the most popular lingerie styles she sees in Italy these days. She seemed thrilled to answer. "Underwear worn as outerwear," she told me. "It's one of the biggest trends, and I love it so much. For example, I like bodysuits, in general, to wear with more casual trousers or skirts because they feel feminine and they feel sexy, but at the same time, they are very comfortable so you feel more confident. I think it's really important not to only follow trends but really to see what works best with your body type and with your confidence, because you'll never have to try too hard if you feel comfortable. Otherwise, you'll lose the beauty of the look."
As for her favorite styles from Intimissimi, Ferragni had a clear winner in mind. "I love the Irina bodysuit as a piece to always have with me. I don't usually wear it traveling because it's a little sexy, but it's so nice. It's the one piece I have in different colors. I always bring it with me because it's so easy to wear with a pair of jeans and instantly you have that wow factor."
