Alexa Chung and Sienna Miller Always Wear These "Old" Shoes—and Now They're Back
While the majority of my wardrobe errs on the reserved side, my shoe collection is another story. In my opinion, glittery heels or bright strappy sandals can make any outfit infinitely cooler. And while I’ve owned just about every type of shoe, there’s one I’ve long since sworn off…
Platforms were my footwear of choice throughout my teens. I wore them on nights out, to family get-togethers (heck, I even wore them to my part-time job at Faith). However, after landing a job in fashion, I found that my platforms, as much as I adored them, only hindered me on my clothing-return runs.
Gradually, they were simply phased out of my wardrobe repertoire. That is, until I saw the F/W 19 collections. Consult our trend report and you’ll find that platform shoes are very much on the agenda this season, with the likes of Dries Van Noten and Stella McCartney showcasing the high-and-mighty footwear.
Alexa Chung and Sienna Miller, however, have remained loyal to the platform-heel trend throughout the years and are providing all the inspiration I need on the styling front. Alexa often wears hers with her off-duty wares (think vinyl trenches, straight-leg jeans, and pinafore dresses), while Sienna ensures hers look fanciful with floral midi dresses and feather-trimmed separates.
Keep scrolling to see how Sienna, Alexa, and some of our favorite influencers wear their platform shoes, and then proceed to shop my edit of the chicest pairs around.
Alexa pairs her black leather platforms with bare legs and a pinafore dress.
Upping the retro ante, Alexa wears her Gucci platforms with a cream suit.
Proof that platforms can also look elegant.
Giving her platforms a downtime spin with a vinyl trench coat and straight-leg jeans.
Sienna is also a fan of the platform, which she tends to wear with pretty dresses.
We love how she's enhanced the red trim on her feathered top with a pair of matching crimson platforms.
Baggy jeans, an oversize blazer, and platform boots. Could Monikh Dale look any cooler?
Giving girl-band vibes, Jeanette Madsen pairs her pink minidress with a pair of cream, disco-ready platforms.
These Gucci stacked loafers are the ideal accompaniment to Maria Bernad’s cool ensemble.
