6 Fall Trends Olivia Rodrigo Brings Back Every Year
Olivia Rodrigo has quickly become a Gen Z style icon, effortlessly blending elements of vintage and contemporary fashion. One of her favorite trends to wear is the revival of '90s grunge. She often wears oversize flannel shirts paired with miniskirts and her favorite Dr. Martens combat boots. Rodrigo also loves to incorporate bold statement accessories like chunky silver jewelry and studded belts to add a unique touch to her outfits.
When it comes to her favorite brands, Rodrigo has shown a preference for high-end brands, sustainable fashion labels, and affordable retailers. She's been spotted in designer pieces from Gucci to Prada on the red carpet, displaying a more glamorous side to her style. However, she also champions eco-conscious brands like Reformation and Stella McCartney, highlighting her commitment to sustainability. To copy Rodrigo's style, start by mixing vintage-inspired pieces with contemporary items. Look for leather blazers, knee-high boots, semi-sheer tights, sweaterdresses, puffer jackets, and printed trousers. Scroll down to shop my favorite Rodrigo-worthy pieces.
1. Leather Blazers
Leather moto jackets will always be cool, but this fall, I'm copying Olivia Rodrigo and wearing leather blazers. Converse sneakers optional.
2. Knee-High Boots
Wear your knee-high boots with short skirts while the weather still permits. When it gets chillier, just add tights.
3. Semi-Sheer Tights
Semi-sheer tights are the perfect addition to any nighttime look for fall. I'll be emulating Rodrigo and wearing a sparkly minidress with pointy-toe pumps.
4. Sweaterdresses
This look is giving me '60s vibes, and I'm here for it. A sweaterdress is perfect for the transitional weather between summer and fall.
5. Puffer Jackets
Showing off her practicality, Rodrigo is a fan of the basic black puffer jacket. Team yours with a pair of Dr. Martens oxfords for a Rodrigo-worthy look.
6. Printed Trousers
There's nothing wrong with wearing your favorite jeans, but why not try something a bit more exciting? Printed trousers are on-trend and Rodrigo approved.
Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 14 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Kate and Meghan stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible.
