9 Things Olivia Palermo Never Wears
Olivia Palermo is practically the definition of sartorial loyalty. While she's always game to try new trends and brands, she plays favorites and wears her most-loved pieces and designers on repeat. (Given that Valentino Garavani is a close friend, can you blame her?)
We've talked at length about what Palermo loves to wear, but what about the things we've noticed she hardly wears at all? While you'll certainly find internet evidence of her wearing some of these things, our research found those instances to be infrequent or dated. That said, the fact that she seems to have ditched these things for the time being, doesn't mean that they won't make their way back into her closet again—we all go through phases with our wardrobes. Some of these could even be purely coincidental. Curious?
Read on to see everything from the color Olivia Palermo resists to the jacket style she's never spotted in, and shop the items she wears instead.
Never Wears…
Denim Jackets
Even though denim jackets are a fashion girl wardrobe staple, Palermo usually opts for statement-making bomber jackets when she wants a casual cover-up. You can't argue with the fact that it's a lot easier to kick an outfit up a notch with a cool bomber than it is with denim.
Wears Instead: Bomber Jackets
On Olivia Palermo: Nike Tech Fleece Destroyer Jacket ($120); J Brand Edita Leggings ($948); Aquazzura booties.
Our Pick:
Never Wears…
Lavender
While Palermo certainly doesn't shy away from color in general, she tends to gravitate away from more feminine colors and instead goes for earthy hues, black and white, jewel tones, and bold colors.
Wears Instead: Khaki Green
On Olivia Palermo: Tibi shirt; Givenchy boots.

The Socks With Shoes Trend
Even though seemingly every fashion girl has been endorsing the practice of pairing fun socks with shoes you wouldn't typically think to wear with socks (i.e., high-heel sandals), Palermo doesn't seem to be on board with the trend just yet.
Wears Instead: Ankle Booties
On Olivia Palermo: Burberry Puff Sleeve Wool Jacket ($3995); Tabitha Simmons boots.
Our Pick:
Never Wears…
Logos
Aside from a subtle Louis Vuitton or Dior endorsement here and there, she typically steers clear of logo-heavy pieces.
Wears Instead: Subdued Pieces
On Olivia Palermo: Elie Saab blazer and top.
Our Pick:
Never Wears…
Cut-Off Shorts
It's been quite a while since Palermo has been spotted in a pair of cut-off denim shorts. She tends to gravitate more toward polished pieces, even in the warmer months (aka shorts season).
Wears Instead: Midi Skirts
On Olivia Palermo: Meli Melo clutch.
Our Pick:
Never Wears…
Sweatpants
Similar to her avoidance of cut-offs, Palermo doesn't advocate sweatpants. Instead, she frequently wears sleek leather pants, even when donning a puffer and sneakers to run errands.
Wears Instead: Leather Pants
On Olivia Palermo: Mila Furs Lisa Down Mink Coat ($4262); J Brand Edita Leather Leggings ($948); Roger Vivier sneakers.
Our Pick:
Never Wears…
"Ugly" Sandals
When it comes to comfortable footwear, you won't find Palermo going anywhere near the "ugly" sandal trend. She even said it herself. That said, she is fond of statement-making sneakers and doesn't shy away from color, platforms, and fun details like fur and embroidery.
Wears Instead: Statement Sneakers
On Olivia Palermo: Nike Roshe One Flyknit Sneakers ($70).
Our Pick:
Never Wears…
Mom Jeans
You've probably noticed by now that Olivia Palermo is one of the biggest skinny jean endorsers around. But a denim style that you won't find her in is high-waisted, vintage-inspired mom jeans.
Wears Instead: Skinny Jeans
On Olivia Palermo: Storets Roa Long Sleeve Zipper Elbow Choker Pullover ($72); Analeena Dynasty Bag.
Our Pick:
Never Wears…
Shoulder Bags
Palermo doesn't seem to prefer to mix things up when it comes to handbag styles. You'd be hard-pressed to find a recent instance of her wearing a shoulder bag or even a crossbody bag. Instead, she sticks to structured top-handle satchels and clutches.
Wears Instead: Satchels and Clutches
On Olivia Palermo: Tibi coat; Zara dress; Longchamp Paris Premier Leather Satchel ($1950); Jimmy Choo boots.
