We’ve been impatiently waiting for Olivia Palermo’s first designs to drop ever since her capsule collection was announced by Banana Republic in the spring. After months of pacing the halls and repeatedly refreshing our inboxes, the lookbook has finally arrived at the Who What Wear offices—let’s just say you’ll be seeing us in a lot of military-inspired coats come fall. The other key takeaways when it comes to channeling Palermo’s style? Paisley is back, you need khaki leather pants, and you’ve definitely just discovered your must-have outerwear for next season.

Shop our top five looks from the Olivia Palermo x Banana Republic collection below (where OP tells us all her personal favorite pieces).

My favorite piece would probably have to be the red military jacket. I really love that.

SIGN US UP. Power red is the color for fall, and military inspiration is having a major moment when it comes to this season’s outerwear. We’re already mentally wearing this showstopping coat over black ankle-grazing jeans as we stroll through Central Park with our imaginary dog.

For this collection, I focused on everyday statement pieces with military details and bohemian accents.

Introducing our favorite styling moment from OP’s campaign: This flawless color palette manages to bring together 18th-century military-inspired outerwear with dandy touches from the beatnik era of the 1960s–exactly the Olivia Palermo style we can’t get enough of.

A statement piece goes a really, really long way.

As bold as this luxe brocade jacket may feel, it’s actually incredibly wearable. The burgundy and gold teams as easily with everyday denim and classic leather pants as it does with Palermo’s pleated khaki dress. FYI, we’ll be going all in, doubling up with the matching skirt, classic sneakers, and a fresh logo tee.

Use a belt to play with proportions. It can make all the difference.

The trench will forever be a classic in our wardrobes, but Palermo wants us to give it a refresh. To hell with buckles! Put a personal spin on the look by tying your belt in a bow, or replacing it with an on-trend alternative to introduce a pop of red. Really up for a fresh take? Try the Olivia Palermo x Banana Republic print version with contrast trim.

I love anything inspired from the 1920s to 1960s.

The dark paisley print of this bohemian-inspired dress is just the right nod to the ’60s (and also comes in the form of a blouse for those of us still working our way up to full-length prints). Get Olivia Palermo’s style by layering over cropped leather pants by day, or team with on-trend slouchy boots for a flawless evening look.
