The NYFW Starter Pack: 5 On-Trend Items Every Fashion Person Needs to Own
And just like that, NYFW has come to an end. There's no denying that my Instagram feed is overflowing with pictures from the week's festivities. After sifting through hundreds of posts, I spotted some common sartorial themes among the many stylish show attendees. So with help from Net-a-Porter's chic designer selection, I've created a NYFW starter pack to pinpoint every item the fashion crowd has unanimously deemed a must-have wardrobe piece. And I think you'll be very pleased with the results. Keep scrolling to shop the five on-trend items every fashion person needs to own right now.
Ballet Flats
Ballet flats took the fashion scene by storm at NYFW, and the chic comfortability they offer ensures that they'll be cherished for the foreseeable future. Trust me—there's a pair out there for everyone whether it's a classic round-toe shape, sleek pointed flat, or Mary Jane (as pictured above).
The cream colorway feels so elegant. These are forever shoes that add a chic touch to any ensemble.
The row of pearls on the strap is so unique.
Ballet flats are one of The Row's most covetable items. Here's the pair that caught my eye.
Embellished ballet flats were spotted on so many show attendees. Not to mention, the sheer tulle fabric is so on-trend.
Classic black ballet flats are a versatile wardrobe staple that literally go with everything. The cute bow detailing makes this pair a little more fashion forward.
Sheer Separates
Layering is the name of the game when it comes to successfully styling the sheer trend. Adding a triangle bra, cami, or full slip underneath sheer fabric is an excellent way to get a little more coverage but still tap into this bold trend.
I usually don't wear animal print, but this stylish top by Anine Bing has me thinking otherwise.
Butter yellow is yet another color trend that has won the hearts of fashion people. This slightly sheer number is truly stunning.
One-shoulder tops are my absolute favorite. The ruched detailing on this one brings an ethereal vibe.
I'd wear this maxi skirt with a long-sleeve bodysuit and leather booties for a fall-ready look.
Made from 100% silk, this shirtdress feels so dreamy. Layer it with a simple slip and trench coat to outsmart the fluctuating temperatures this season.
This will easily become my go-to top for nights on the town, especially come holiday season. Black jeans or a leather miniskirt are just two ways to style it.
Belted Garments
If there's one thing I learned after scrolling through NYFW posts, it's that a belt can completely transform the silhouette of any dress, top, or bottom. And fashion people are leaning into garments with built-in belts. (Talk about a two-for-one.) These pieces have a way of accentuating your waist and make for a very polished look.
My jacket collection could use a new addition, and this denim piece feels so fresh and timeless.
My co-workers are going to see me in this skirt 24/7. The A-line silhouette is so classic, making this a no-brainer for office days.
An iconic strapless denim moment that's guaranteed to turn heads.
This stylish miniskirt by Helmut Lang highlights the popularity of the utility trend with its large patch pockets.
This dress is a love letter to minimalists. I'd match my accessories to the textured leather belt to bring the outfit together.
Chic Clutches
A clutch is the one handbag style my wardrobe has yet to adopt. After seeing how fashion show attendees used them to subtly elevate their outfits, it's safe to say that I'm ready to start shopping. Luckily, Net-a-Porter has an abundance of chic styles to choose from.
I love the way shearling was reimagined to create this handbag. This is definitely on my fall wish list.
This is a chic investment clutch that's worth every penny.
Cult Gaia always has cool, original handbags that show a lot of personality. This clutch brings a fun pop of color to any ensemble.
The croc-effect leather is so sleek and creates a very cool texture.
This is the clutch that carries it all. And the super-soft leather highlights its impeccable quality.
Word to the wise: This popular style just came back in stock.
Wide-Leg Pants
The wider the leg the better this season. This trending wardrobe item has proven to be a popular pant style that never fails to have an effortlessly cool aesthetic. Fashion people play with a mix of shapes and styles from high-rise cargos to plissé-crepe fabrics.
Cargo-style pants are here to stay, and this elevated pair will effortlessly transition from day to night.
Pajama-style pants are trending right now, and it's easy to see why. They strike the right balance between comfort and elegance.
The cotton-blend velvet fabric is so distinct and a great way to create contrast when pairing with knit sweaters or simple bodysuits.
I'm always willing to try something new with my style, and the curved silhouette of these wide-leg pants is just what I have been looking for.
These flowy wide-leg pants look so fun and comfortable to wear, and the dark-red colorway is perfect for fall.
