I'm an NYC-Based Fashion Editor, and I Wear These 5 Basics on Repeat
As a fashion editor in New York City, I am always on the go. Whether I’m running to press previews and events, meeting up with other editors, attending events, or creating fashion-related content for TikTok and Instagram, I am constantly in need of a great look. As someone who cares about sustainability yet really hates to repeat an outfit, choosing great staples that I can mix and match in multiple ways has become the key.
I have found myself really leaning into items that have helped me keep my no-outfit-repeating rule. Notice I said outfit repeating and not item repeating. Yes, finding versatile pieces is what is going to help create a capsule wardrobe that lasts.
Keep scrolling to check out the versatile basics I can’t get enough of.
Classic Ribbed Tank Top
Don’t underestimate the power of a classic ribbed tank top. This piece can be found in the closets of all your favorite It girls, from Hailey Bieber to Kendall Jenner. The styling opportunities are almost endless. Pair your favorite tank with a midi-length skirt, high-waisted jeans, loose trousers, a miniskirt, a button-down—you name it.
Button-Down Shirt
A staple I’ll be wearing forever, a white button-down shirt is such a clean, sophisticated, and classic look, so I can never have too many. You can style this shirt with your favorite straight-leg denim for an everyday vibe or pair it with a miniskirt for an evening out.
Black Miniskirt
The micro-skirt trend has arrived and is here to stay. A black miniskirt is a girl’s best friend, and I’m looking forward to wearing mine all summer.
High-Waisted Denim
While I know low-rise is trending, I always need a good pair of high-waisted jeans. When running around NYC, I style my denim with white sneakers or heeled mules.
Maxi Dress
This will be the hem length of the summer if you ask me. Personally, I could wear a maxi dress every day, and in the spring and summer, I usually do. Style with flat sandals for a daytime look or a great vacation 'fit.
