As I'm sure you can imagine, a ton of brands live in my head rent-free. I'm exposed to designers, products, and runway shows on a daily basis, so it's only natural that I daydream about certain items. A few months ago, I was fixated on the Norma Kamali Diana gown, which you may have seen on Carrie Bradshaw in And Just Like That. As the weather gets colder, I'm fixating on Norma Kamali's iconic sleeping-bag coat. Are you noticing a trend here? After more than 50 years in the fashion industry, Kamali has a way of thinking ahead of the curve and creating of-the-moment styles that keep shoppers on their toes. But Kamali has made waves in the industry for more than her legendary namesake company (which I can't stop shopping, by the way).
After keeping us all stylish in the most beautiful pieces for years, Kamali tapped into the beauty industry and launched Normalife, a skincare line for all genders, ages, and skin types. "I believe each decade you age, you should wear less product and makeup on your face. Aging with power means less is more, but the product's power is quality and timeless ingredients," says Kamali, who believes that wellness is whatever gives you peace of mind. In her case, those things are acupuncture, Thai massages, and meditation. In my case, browsing the Norma Kamali S/S 23 collection and getting the scoop on all of Kamali's must-have beauty picks did the trick. If you want to know her secrets to feeling good and looking fabulous at any age, keep scrolling to see 16 of her favorite products and learn why they're essential in her beauty lineup.
"Soft is not only my go-to face moisturizer, but I also use it to remove makeup, as a healing ointment, on my feet, everywhere."
"I have found Biopelle's products to be unbelievably helpful. They have this concentrated product called Tensage Intensive Serum 40 Post Procedure Ampoules, which is supposed to help repair your skin after a treatment or surgery. I use it in preparation for a special event. I didn't think I would be a snail mucus fan, but here I am."
"It's especially helpful if you don't want to wear a lot of makeup. The Norma Kamali Glow works similarly to a tanner, but it has a different ingredient mix. It also has moisturizers in it, which tanners really don't have."
"I'll use this pencil to shade a little bit under my eye, do an extension at the outside of my eye, or smoke around my eye. If I mix it with my moisturizer, I can get it to be sort of cloudy. If you get a lighter shade—something like an auburn color—you can use it as a lip pencil."
"I'm trying to wash my hair less, but I work out all the time. However, I understand it's not good to wash your hair every day. Instead, on some days, I just rinse my hair, take the mask, put some of it in my hands, and run it through my hair from about halfway to the ends. It not only makes it feel silky soft, but it just takes down the frizzies."
"I do a circular motion all over my body with this, and the reason I do that is because it really stimulates the blood flow. I think it's also good for toning and just sort of keeping things glowing."
"A silk pillowcase makes such a big difference. I wash them over and over again, and I just love the way they age as you wash them. But the minute you don't have one—if you're staying somewhere and they don't have silk pillowcases, and you didn't bring your own with you—you can feel the difference on your skin. You feel the difference on your hair."
"It's so simple, but probably the best beauty ritual is sleep, and if people understand that, then they will pay attention to how to get a good night's sleep."
"It comes in a lot of different tints. This one smells like cherry and is so subtle, and you can take it and apply it on your cheeks. That's my makeup."
"Collagen is obviously good for skin, hair, and nails. I have to say I really see a difference. As your skin ages, it's thinner and you have less fat and collagen, so I think I would probably notice the benefit of the collagen before someone younger would."
"I like alkaline water because we have acidity everywhere. Stress creates acidity, even on your skin. Drinking this water is a simple little thing; it's not like all of a sudden your face is going to [be lifted]. Ain't gonna happen."
"I'll have green juices every day. This is a very old-school green powder, but it's amazing for boosting immunity."
"It's not so much for other people to smell you, but to make you feel calm, relaxed, and restored, like you're floating on a cloud."
"I do facial cupping, and sometimes I'm super successful, and it's like the crevices sort of smooth out."
"This is a daily must-have for overall good health. A healthy body tends to look better than the alternative."
