8 New Street Style Trends I've Seen All Over NYC This Week

New York Fashion Week is quite the drama queen this season. From Susan Alexandra's bat mitzvah and Pyer Moss's choir to Janelle Monae's jaw-dropping (on Cate Blanchett's part) performance at Ralph Lauren, and dancers at Rag & Bone to '80s-style model twirls at Christopher John Rogers and Sies Marjan, fashion is flexing its dramatic muscles this season, and we're here for the flair. And since New York Fashion Week is the back-to-school moment for the fashion set, the street style players are showing up in outfits as outrageous as the shows.

Back from summering in Italian villas and Greek beaches, the street style stars have descended on the Big Apple to give us the outfit inspiration we're looking for. As summer temps start to dissipate (boo) and our jumpers stare at us from the bottom shelf, there's no time like the early days of September to cue fresh outfit ideas from the crowds of fashion week.

If the theme of NYFW is drama, the most dramatic part of the street style trends is fashion's obsession with Daniel Lee's Bottega Veneta. The Pouch bag has unsurprisingly been everywhere, and the craze continues. But that's not the only bag we've seen all over fashion week: There's a new (much more affordable) It bag this season too.

As predicted, fluorescents are here to stay this autumn/winter, while surprisingly there are a few easy styling tricks that are suddenly everywhere. A key buy for autumn according to the street style set? Shorts. No, seriously—blame new Celine. From cult buys to outfit ideas, keep scrolling to discover the street style trends we're loving from New York Fashion Week.

1. THE MOON BAG

Moon-shaped bags (if you tip your head to the side to see the crescent) are everywhere. Polished yet fun, this shape looks like it can actually hold a lot of stuff. The Staud Moon Bag is dominating, but Hayward and Coperni's relaxed moon-shaped bags have also been spotted.

Who What Wear EIC Kat Collings has long loved Hayward bags. We love how she pairs this new shape in a warm caramel suede against the white hues of her Jacquemus dress and Neous heels. 

In a more boho spirit, this showgoer belts a flowy, printed green dress, purposefully clashing the dark leather of her belt with her Staud bag. 

When cult buys go together, magic happens. The Staud Moon Bag works so well with this smocked Totême dress. A match made in street style heaven. 

2. BIG PRINTS… HUGE!

While ditsy-printed dress are a consistent favourite season after season, the less-common oversized print has been all over NYFW this year. From knits like Alyssa's Mansur Gavriel sunny jumper to dresses, the bigger, the better.

We love the look of this oversized floral print, with matching red accessories. Nothing says commitment like matching your boots to one's massive collar. 

Simone Rocha–esque in silhouette, the socks and flatforms balance out the over-the-topness of the bold pink print. The headband is a perfect finishing touch. 

Ready to double-down on oversized prints? We are. This look needs little else than the co-ord. On-trend tie-up heels, a simple handbag and tortoiseshell accessories are all you need. 

3. Not-So-Short Shorts

Shorts have grown up and they are very serious now. Where cycling shorts aimed to push the boundaries of where they belong (the gym, the office?), the shorts spotted across NYFW are all business. Longer in length, there's an '80s styling that minimalists will love. 

Nothing says business like a suit. Opt for a shorts-based set like Tiffany Hsu and add a pair of heels for the 2019 version of a Working Girl power suit.

Chic Bermuda shorts? Oh, it's happening. Paired with a bra top and oversized blazer and heels, this look would also work brilliantly with a simple tee for the last few days of summer at the office. 

Bringing shorts into autumn seems like a risky move, but at knee-length and in leather (like this pair from the Frankie Shop, our favourite!), it just might work. We love the warm browns that Linda Tol has committed to with this outfit and the white quilted tote, Bottega Veneta heels and chain necklace complete the look.

4. Hot, Hot Pink

If 2019 has taught us anything, it's that neon is good, very good. While lime green has had its moment in the spotlight—often paired brilliantly with hues of beige—hot pink is back.

Who needs trousers when you have this jacket?! When you come to own something as gorgeous as this Jacquemus stunner, as our U.S. fashion editor Lauren Eggertsen has, just let it do the talking.

A nice top and jeans. The formula that will never die, as it is simply fashion science at its finest. The evidence: this Hellessy top on Charlotte Groeneveld.

Always one for taking us on a new styling adventure, we're obsessed with how Kat has draped her patchwork Stine Goya knit over the shoulders of her entirely hot pink Ciao Lucia look. So simple and brilliant. Obsessed. 

5. Here-to-Play Suits

Probably our favourite trend of all is all the really fun co-ords! We've long been over the cliche that matchy-matchy is boring because it's actually is the easiest outfit formula. The NYFW crowd have been loving co-ords this season, but in new and exciting styles, shapes and colours.

Vanessa Hong's yellow set is so gorgeous—it's sunshine personified. Plus, it's velvet! Comfort and simplicity while still standing out? Sign us up. 

Emili Sindlev—the Carrie Bradshaw of street style—proves that you don't need to buy the matching set to make a co-ord happen. Look through your wardrobe and match tones and hues to create a monochromatic look of your own. The different textures makes this look that much more interesting. 

Sparkly, green matching set? Not just for the disco anymore! This showgoer proves that nothing's too dressy when paired with white sneakers. 

Ah, the waistcoat. We had a feeling we'd see a couple of these over fashion month, and we're not disappointed by this AlexaChung set. Paired with mega-platforms, Alyssa's buttoning modernizes the look and makes the waistcoat more Kate Moss than grandpa. 

6. Knee-High Boots + Loose Trousers

This look has been on our radar as a microtrend for a couple of seasons, but it seems that we might have to call it a flat-out trend for autumn. Maryam Nassir Zadeh sent the ever-cool Mari Giudicelli down her S/S 20 runway in a white suit tucked into black boots, so it's a matter of time before we're all doing it. The key is balancing the fit of the trousers with the boots. 

Wearing this outfit formula in denim with scrunched leather boots evokes '80s Princess Diana, but the cropped corseted top gives this outfit a modern twist. 

Ever-cool Linda Tol opts for khaki trousers and white boots with a taupe knit and belt bag. Proof that practicality can be chic. 

We adore this outfit. The cream boilersuit fits like a dream and the snakeskin of the boots takes the whole look up a level. 

7. The New All-White Outfit

Wearing a single colour head-to-toe is the not-so-secret way to instantly looking chic, despite the risk of red-wine stains. We're always on the lookout for ways to reinvent this look, and we've finally found it: a white oversized top with a white skirt. We love how super-stylist Sissy Sainte-Marie Chacon pairs her minimalistic blazer with a pleated skirt and brown accessories. 

This formula also works so well with a denim mini and oversized knit cardigan. The shoulder bag completes the '90s vibe.

This look is mega chic—we can barely stand it. The purposeful wrinkles of the oversized button-down contrasting against the vertical pleats create a textured richness that makes this all-white look anything but dull. 

Let's hear it for these cow-print clogs! Like any good plot twist, these clogs come out of nowhere compared to the minimalism of the rest of this look. It's these kinds of surprises that we love to spot at fashion week. 

8. Bottega, Bottega, Bottega

Of course, this I had to include Bottega—it's everywhere! Which confirms that the love that the fashion set has for Daniel Lee's Bottega Veneta pieces is not going anywhere any time soon. Like the collections of Phoebe Philo's Celine, these pieces are cult at the moment but will work season after season and will last forever. 

The Pouch bag has been spotted everywhere, but the NYFW crowd are also loving the Bottega shoes. The shoes! From the quilted mules to the strappy heels, the front-row footwear is all Bottega. 

Annabel Rosendahl paired her Pouch bag and Almond heels with a beige skirt, a simple tee and a gold chain. Minimalists, take note! 

While the Pouch bag has dominated since it dropped earlier this year, other pieces in the collection (like the Daisey bag pictures above) are not to be overlooked. Lee brilliantly reinvented Bottega's signature styles to make them feel fresh, making them instant classics.
