7 Items New York Girls Prioritize Over Everything Else
It's likely that when you think about New York style, you think leather jacket, cool jeans, and a killer pair of boots. But I'm here to tell you it's not that simple. It's easy to pigeonhole a popular city's uniform into one key outfit, but the truth is New York is a place of individuality and creativity, so the outfits you see on the streets here are vast and chic.
Every city has its fashion tropes. French girls are known for their chic simplicity, and L.A. girls are known for their obsession with comfort. And if there's one thing that's absolutely true, it's that New York is all about personal style. But there are still a few things that every city girl has her in wardrobe. Whether it's due to practicality or just a tried-and-true timeless look, I've rounded up the seven things that New York girls are guaranteed to have in their closets below.
Curious what pieces New York girls prioritize over everything else besides just their leather jackets? Scroll to find out.
1. Commuter Sneakers
In my opinion, the most important item in a New York girl's wardrobe is a pair of comfortable sneakers. It's truly something one can't live without. Dressed up or down, sneakers are a must for a New York girl who's always on the go.
2. Trousers
Of course jeans are important to any wardrobe, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a girl in New York who doesn't also own a pair of chic workwear trousers. In a city that values dressing up, a pair of non-denim pants are a must-have.
3. Weekend Wear
New Yorkers spend all week dressing, up so the weekends are officially the time for more casual clothing. Whether you're taking a walk in the park or seeing new parts of the city, something easy to throw on and comfortable is an incredibly important part of any girl's wardrobe.
4. A Blazer
Whether you're wearing it to work or as an evening accessory, a tailored blazer is a New York must-have.
5. Midi Dress
Summers in New York get so hot that the only reasonable option is an easy dress. Paired with sneakers and a mini bag, you'll find this look all over the streets of the city.
6. A Raincoat
It may not be the most glamorous, but practicality is key, and a raincoat is something that every New Yorker really does need. So why not get a chic one?
7. A Tote Bag
New York is a commuter city, and although teeny-tiny little bags are super on-trend right now, they're not the most pragmatic. So what do New York girls do? Carry their mini bags and a tote. Yep, it's what we do.
Up next, this is about to be the biggest skirt trend of fall.
