My Fashion Colleagues Voted on Their Favorite Summer Basics—These Styles Won
If the editors on our fashion team rattled off the go-to essentials in their wardrobes, there’s a strong chance a slew of basics would top each list. After all, it’s these versatile staples that act as the foundational pieces in a closet. On that note, I thought I’d get a sense of the summer basics my fashion colleagues are gravitating towards. You know, to potentially inspire any of your future shopping trips.
To uncover the edit in question, I actually listed a range of elevated basics in our fashion Slack channel and had the team vote on the styles that were most noteworthy. In the end, there were actually five summer basics that ranked the highest based on thumbs-up emojis.
Keep scrolling to check out forward basics to consider for the season.
1. Oversize Button-Down Shirts
This is the one elevated basic that actually got the most thumbs up amongst the editors on the team given the inherently chic and elevated nature.
2. Mini Skirts
It's no secret that mini skirts are the moment (thanks in large part to this pleated number). This is a next-level basic that can be dressed up or down, and can actually styled with a range of tops.
3. Relaxed Jeans
I feel like we couldn't curate a list of basics without a strong denim option. And yep, it's relaxed jeans that reigned supreme for my fashion colleagues. The perfect modern silhouette.
4. Ribbed Tanks
Ribbed tanks were another top pick here. While simple, that ideal silhouette is just always chic with jeans, skirts, trousers, under a blazer, and so on.
5. Simple Maxi Dresses
On the other end of the spectrum from mini skirts comes the summer maxi. This trend-forward basic—either in a column design or a more voluminous silhouette like this—is fantastic to just throw on and go.
