This TikTok-Viral Product Claims to Reduce Dark Spots, But Does It Really Work?

Whenever I want a skincare recommendation, I'm not ashamed to say that TikTok is often my first port of call, because there are so many helpful videos on there about pretty much any product you might need or be considering purchasing. I've discovered some incredible brands through the app such as Byoma and The Ordinary, but there's one in particular that I've been seeing everywhere lately. Don't get me wrong; as a beauty editor I was already aware of Murad's impressive skincare offerings, but I hadn't yet put any of the products to the test myself. However, whilst on the hunt for a product to bring some brightness to my dull, lacklustre complexion, I stumbled across lots of videos on Murad's Rapid Dark Spot Correcting Serum.

This clever serum has been formulated to help reduce the look of hyperpigmentation and dark spots whilst delivering some serious radiance. After becoming pretty much mesmerised by some of the before-and-after testimonials on TikTok, I knew I had to give it a go myself, so if you're interested to know my thoughts, keep on scrolling for my honest review.

How Does Murad Dark Spot Correcting Serum Work?

So, first things first, how does this serum actually work? Intended for daily use, this clever formula contains patented resorcinol technology, which works to prevent the formation of sun spots and even out skin tone. It also contains glycolic acid to exfoliate and remove dull skin cells from the surface to give a glowing complexion. It doesn't stop there, as tranexamic acid is included in addition to these powerful ingredients to help revive and soothe the skin. According to the brand's website, the serum can be used on balanced, oily, combination and dry skin types. All you have to do is apply it after cleansing (both morning and evening) and follow up with your moisturiser and SPF.

How Long Does It Take Murad Dark Spot Serum to Work?

As the name suggests, this product works quickly. According to the brand's website, you can start seeing results after just 14 days, and after watching lots of reviews on TikTok, other people also said that they started seeing changes in their skin after around two to four weeks.

My Verdict

I was really keen to try this product because, if I'm being totally honest, my skin has not been looking its best lately. I don't know if it's the sudden drop in temperature, but my complexion is looking dull and uneven, and I've even had a couple of breakouts. That being said, I do have slightly more sensitive skin, so I also felt a bit apprehensive about adding something new to my routine. I followed the instructions and applied the serum after cleansing and before my moisturiser and was pleasantly surprised by how lightweight the formula felt.

It's a clear gel texture that sinks in almost immediately, and my skin practically lapped it up. I've been using the serum for a few days now with no irritation and already feel like my complexion is looking more radiant. I've also noticed that my spots are fading a little faster, however, I definitely need to use the product for a few more weeks to see if I notice a difference when it comes to my uneven skin tone. With all this in mind, I think this product could quickly become a staple in my skincare routine. There's no denying that it's more on the expensive side, but you don't need to use much for each application, so a bottle should last a good while.

All in all, if you're not experiencing any particular skin concerns at the moment, then I wouldn't say you need this serum. However, if you're looking for something to tackle dark spots and give your complexion a radiance boost, then this might be a worthwhile investment.
