Really Dated MTV Movie Awards Looks I'd Wear Today

Ahead of this weekend’s MTV Movie & TV Awards, I figured a trip down red carpet memory lane was in orderback to when the red carpet attendees were gloriously self-styled. As hoped, I found a plethora of looks from the award show in the ’90s and early ’00s that hit on current trends I’d 100% wear today. I’m talking square necklines, double clips, and pant chains, all of which we’ve covered in the past few months. Scroll down to see the cream of the crop.

While I likely wouldn't wear this exact outfit, it has many trendy elements I'm absolutely down with: rainbow stripesbaguette bags, and baggy pants with a chain belt that remind me quite a bit of the I.Am.Gia pair with a cult following.

We're well aware that shells are trending hard in the jewelry world. It's only a matter of time until the sea-themed look spills over into our clothes, which is why I'm all for Moore's sweet shell halter dress. We caught up with the actress for more details on the dress:

"I picked that vintage dress from Decades with the help of Cristina Ehrlich (my stylist then and now, ironically), because it felt classic and effortless. I had just returned from a week-long vacation in Hawaii, so it felt like the right color palette against my tan (worth the tan lines exposed lol). It's one of the few outfits from that era that I wore and don't cringe about." - Mandy Moore

Kendall Jenner wore a dress just like J.Lo's top for her 21st birthday a couple years ago, but the style is still going strong now. Exhibit A: Cool new brand Poster Girl has a version. Beyond the clothes, we can't help but notice that the double–hair clip look, which has seen a resurgence in just the past month.

Minimalist. Backless. Barely there spaghetti straps. What else could you want?

The square neckline is having a renaissance, so it's no surprise that we're into this spaghetti-strap version. Also highly interested in those red platforms.

Is it a coincidence that the most classic look of all is the oldest? We think not, and we'd wear this body-skimming jumpsuit today.
