These Are the Most Comfortable T-Shirts to Travel In

It’s a no-brainer that T-shirts are the absolute best items to travel in. While I don’t wear tees every day of the week, I’d consider myself to be a T-shirt connoisseur, so needless to say, I always travel with a variety of cozy tees. However, it has taken a considerable amount of trial and error to hunt down the most comfortable of them all.
From a traveler’s perspective, your traveling tee should be soft to the touch with a relaxed fit. The best T-shirts are also breathable, light, and thick enough to assure that your bra doesn’t show. (Not too much to ask from a simple staple, right?) My favorite travel T-shirts are constructed from soft materials and pair well with everything from cropped denim to leggings. Read on to see the T-shirts I never travel without.
Everlane’s classic V-neck tee offers a great relaxed fit and is made from Supima cotton, the softest lightweight material. Supima cotton contains an extra-long staple fiber that gives the material its premium properties: strength, softness, and color retention.
Available in sizes XXS to XL.
I was skeptical when I first bought this T-shirt, as I’m not a fan of spending almost $100 on a basic top. However, I’m so glad I did. James Perse is touted as having some of the softest tees around. This one feels smooth and offers a flattering, slightly loose fit. Plus, the darker color is great for any spills that may accidentally occur during turbulence.
Available in sizes XS to XL.
Cool-girl brand Reformation offers this tee that’s made from 100% lyocell, a sustainable fiber that comes from the pulp of trees and is dissolved in a nontoxic organic solvent. Lyocell provides the T-shirt with high-strength properties and a smooth, silky finish. Stripes also work great with any outfit.
Available in sizes XS to XL.
It’s time you discovered Marine Layer. Its T-shirts are made from a signature custom fabric: a blend of 50% Supima cotton and 50% MicroModal. (If you haven’t felt MicroModal yet, just know that it’s absurdly silky soft and eco-friendly.) The swing tee has a slimmer fit around the shoulders and a flattering drape, which makes it great for traveling. It also comes in seven versatile colors.
Available in sizes XS to XL.
Project Social T is an L.A.-based brand that is known for its unrelenting attention to fabric, fit, and durability. This shirt’s deep-V, laid-back silhouette makes it a fashion-girl favorite. You’ll find this tee (made from a super-soft Pima cotton and MicroModal blend) hard to part with. Get this one before it sells out.
Available in sizes XS to S.
I own this tee in three versatile colors (the gray one is my favorite), and it’s unquestionably my go-to for everything from flights to outdoor activities. This 100% cotton T-shirt is breathable, comfortable, and fits great. It’s no wonder it’s a Madewell best seller. I’d suggest air-drying after washing, as it’s likely to shrink in the dryer.
Available in sizes XXS to 3X.
Splendid has always been a reliable brand when it comes to the essentials, and its super-soft V-neck tees do not disappoint. This T-shirt boasts a relaxed fit and is made from 50% MicroModal and 50% Supima cotton. Your new weekend tee.
This classic white tee has been a huge hit among Who What Wear readers (it’s currently one of our best sellers on the site) and is fast becoming my must-have for flights. The tee also comes in a cropped version, but I like the ease of the longer length.
Available in sizes S to L.
Which T-shirt will you be traveling in? We know—they all look so comfy.
