No One Brightens Up a Gloomy NYC Day Like This Brand
Welcome to Runway Matters, where we're delivering notes straight from the runway so you can quickly digest the most important trends and noteworthy moments from the F/W 18 shows.
On day two of an already exciting New York Fashion Week, I had the pleasure of attending Milly’s runway-style F/W 18 presentation. Despite relatively gloomy weather, designer Michelle Smith achieved the radiant and colorful vibe she set out for. With her rainbow color palette and a slew of vibrantly dressed influencers, the room was transformed from a blank canvas to an aesthetic wonderland. Simply keep reading for our breakdown of the four biggest must-know moments from the show.
The Color Scheme: Rainbow
From the signage to the looks to the set itself, the "chromatic" theme was omnipresent and impossible to ignore.
The Trend: Vibrant Monochromatic Dressing
If there's one styling tip to take away from the presentation, it's to choose a color and layer away.
The “Awww” Moment: Family First
For her brief appearance following the finale, designer Michelle Smith was accompanied by her adorable (an aptly dressed) daughter.
The Showstopper: Pink, Please
There's always a moment in a show or presentation when the whole room lets out a collective "ooh," and this was definitely it.
Since starting as an intern back in 2013, Nicole Akhtarzad Eshaghpour has held several roles here at Who What Wear, and she is currently Editor-at-Large. Upon joining, she was a senior about to graduate from business school at USC. Fast-forward to 2025, and she's moved to NYC from her hometown of Beverly Hills and spends her workdays a little differently from when she was just starting out. Currently, she focuses on a weekly mélange of shopping content and her Trust Me—Buy This newsletter. As far as her personal style goes, she's largely drawn to neutral, classic pieces but will always make an exception for something colorful or bejeweled as long as it's deemed worthy enough. After all, the only thing she loves more than a party is dressing up for one. On her downtime, she can usually be found at home eating something delicious and trying to force her husband to watch Summer House.
