Seeing Miami Swim Week unfold before my eyes was a dream come true. Paraiso Miami Beach hosted an incredible weekend during which swimwear designers showcased their latest collections. The highlight of the weekend was the amount of diversity on the runways. While there was diversity in terms of size and race, there were also people with disabilities, such as Marsha Elle, in the shows.

I had the chance to speak with a few designers between shows, and they fully echoed my sentiments. Monti Landers, the founder of Riot Swim, agreed with my enthusiasm, saying the best part of her debut show was seeing the different sizes go down the runway. "I usually just see one girl, and I want to represent everyone," she said. Monday Swimwear also entered the swim week arena this season, and co-founder Devin Brugman shared that her customer base responded positively as well. "I posted one of our voluptuous-range models on Instagram. I got so many messages saying that 'when I see images like this, I tear up because I finally see someone who looks like me and I can relate to.' These messages mean so much to me. We're proud of what we've done so far, so we're going to keep going," she said.

If seeing all people represented in swimwear isn't enough to make you want to shop it, I don't know what is. The runway trends I saw (and the women who wore them) will definitely be guiding my next purchases, so I rounded them up below. These eight trends will define swimwear for 2022 and beyond.

Get ready to bare it all because the Miami Swim Week runways were all in favor of a sheer moment. If a cover-up isn't see-through, I don't want it.

If your style is sporty, this trend is for you. A bold outline on a swimsuit is a fun way to make your bikini stand out. I'll definitely be pulling this style out of the archives for seasons to come.

A little bit of crochet goes a long way, and the miniature sarongs I saw walking across the runway made a bold statement. This is one of the easiest trends to adopt, so I say we go all in.

I knew that belts were going to be everywhere faster than expected when they had a huge moment on the fall runways. Swimwear is no exception. Look for belt detailing to cinch the waist or add a cool embellishment to your look.

Live life in 3D with this trend that takes your swimwear to new dimensions. You're going to have fun with this trend, which includes strong floral or ruffled embellishments literally popping out of the swimsuits.

Cutouts are nothing new to the fashion set, but designers are loving them so much that they're finding new and fun ways to design them into their collections. If you see a cutout that's different than anything you've ever seen before, you're in the right place.

I love how effortless a good matching set is, and at the beach, it's your secret weapon. No matter how many hours you spend swimming in the sea, you'll look pulled together for your beachside dinner in seconds when you throw on a matching set.

Pairing low-rise pants with high-cut bikini bottoms is such a fun styling trick. It's a flattering way to show off your abs and more of your bikini. It's one of the first things I'm wearing next time I'm close to a beach.
