I’ve said before and I’ll say it again—I love investing in great basics. Truly the backbone of my wardrobe, versatile basics are pieces I wear again and again and last much longer than just one season. While my closet is lined with plenty of great tees, blazers, and denim, there’s a new must-own basic popping up recently that I don’t own (but need to): maxi skirts. The trend has been gaining traction on the runways at brands including Jacquemus, Christopher Esber, and Fendi. And now, they’re starting to pop up on fashion insiders.

While the trend might seem a little tricky to style—to me at least—I noticed a handful of helpful outfit formulas that makes wearing one a breeze. A favorite trick from the runways? Add a crop top and heels or boots. The fashion set has also been experimenting with adding cool cardigans and midriff-baring cropped jackets to their outfits. For more inspiration on how to wear the maxi skirt trend, keep scrolling.

On the runways, we've been seeing the maxi skirt trend styled with beautiful tonal looks and midriff-baring crop tops. Here, see how designers are inspiring me to wear the cool skirt silhoette.
