One Thing I'm Good at Is Curating a Capsule Wardrobe—5 Summer Pieces I'm Adding
Sponsor Content Created With Marks and Spencer
I've always believed that a capsule wardrobe is the secret to mastering seasonal dressing. It's about having a carefully curated collection of timeless pieces that simplify daily outfit choices while ensuring a versatile and classic foundation. This summer, even though my wardrobe staples are in place, I'm on the hunt for a few key pieces to keep things fresh as the temperatures rise. Naturally, my first stop is M&S—a brand that's been a constant in my wardrobe for years. Its commitment to making quality pieces that sit between classic styles and new trends makes it my go-to for capsule essentials.
When I'm shopping for my capsule wardrobe, I focus on finding pieces that are trendy, classic and practical. This season, I'm focusing on a more frugal and sustainable approach to shopping and have honed in on a few categories that'll help keep my wardrobe updated not just for this summer but for many summers to come.
First up are light layers, M&S has some fantastic options such as breezy cardigans and lightweight jackets perfect for those cooler summer evenings—I've had my eye on the Relaxed Bomber for a few seasons now. The brand's linen pieces, including crisp linen trousers and relaxed shirts, are my go-to for staying cool and stylish. Everyone has a few dresses in their summer wardrobe, but I'm looking beyond that to more seasonless, classic basics such as an oversized crisp white shirt and versatile tank tops. And, of course, no summer wardrobe is complete without upping your shoe game—think classic leather ballet flats and refined yet casual slingbacks.
After a good perusing on the M&S site, I did the hard work of curating the summer capsule pieces needed to elevate and refresh every wardrobe. Keep scrolling for the foundational pieces that will help bring my wardrobe game up a notch for the season.

1. Classic Basics
Perfect for layering or wearing on its own, this tank top offers endless styling options. I'll wear it with some baggy linen trousers and a linen blazer.
Jeans are perfect for day-to-night transitions. Dress them up with heels or down with sandals.
This shirt is ideal for a casual day or the office—just pair it with jeans or tailored shorts. It also comes in a mirage of colours, but the classic white is my favourite.
A stripped Tee is a must for a little Breton action to break up a neutral look.
2. Linen Pieces
You'll always find a classic linen shirt in every fashion person's summer wardrobe. This piece pairs well with both trousers and shorts for an easy, breezy look—what's not to love?
Breathable and stylish, these black linen trousers are a summer must-have.
This is a comfortable yet elegant choice for summer days. It would look oh so cute with a cardigan on chilly nights as well.
This waistcoat also comes in warm colours, but the grey stands out as a more muted summer pick. I'm thinking of wearing it over a simple top with the matching grey trousers.
3. Summer Dresses
I can think of so many events to wear this printed cotton dress to, but the first one has to be to my friend's baby shower.
Just add some neutral flat sandals and a basket bag for the ultimate summer holiday ensemble.
The ruffles and one-shoulder neckline give this black dress an elegant touch, making it the perfect attire for all those alfresco events.
I love how the cinched waist makes this a flattering option for everyone. Plus, the muted brown is the summer colour if I ever did see one.
4. Light Layers
This bomber adds a touch of structure without sacrificing comfort, ideal for those cooler summer nights.
Denim is a year-round staple, so adding this denim waistcoat to my wardrobe is the best choice I can make.
This is perfect for layering over a sundress or pairing with jeans for a casual evening out.
I will always stand by the power of an oversized blazer. Love it or hate it, you can't deny that a little undone vibe takes an outfit to another level.
5. Seasonal Shoes
Slingbacks are my sophisticated shoe pick. They're not as formal as a pump but not as casual as a flat—they're the perfect balance.
It's definitely a ballet-pump summer no matter where you are, so I'm doing my part by sticking to this classic ivory pair.
A casual staple that pairs well with jeans or shorts, these sandals are also so comfy to walk in.
The black version of these loafers looks so polished, but I love the warm tone of the brown pair for my summer wardrobe.
