Behind the Scenes at the Made In America Festival: An Instagram Diary
This Labour Day weekend marked the third year for Jay Z's Made in America music festival, co-sponsored by Budweiser and American Eagle Outfitters. This year was the first time the festival happened concurrently in Philadelphia and L.A., and Who What Wear was fortunate enough to have VIP access to all the behind-the-scenes action on the ground.
We caught up with a couple of our favourite style mavens, including Jamie Chung, Neon Blush blogger Jenny Ong, and Native Fox blogger Jennifer Grace, as well as snapping some amazing street style along the way.
Scroll down to go behind-the-scenes at the L.A. Made in America festival!
"You have to have the shades, and you've got to have protection from the sun," Chung says of her go-to festival necessities. "You can wear a flowy, nice top or dress. I brought jean shorts, but I also wore jeans for the nighttime, just because it gets a little chilly here [in Los Angeles] at night. You need options, so bring layers! And you need a backpack."

"All your short floral dresses, just throw on a pair of stockings and a pair of boots," Chung says of her summer-to-fall sartorial tactics. "It's all about layering pieces, so you can still wear the light cardigan or the light floral kimono you love. It's all about layering."

"I go for comfort," Neon Blush blogger Jenny Ong says of her go-to festival style. "I normally would wear shorts, but today I thought I would maybe take a chance with leggings. In previous years, there's been a lot of dirt that goes on and some bruising from running around, so I didn't want to take the chance to get bruised up. I thought maybe leggings would be perfect to shield me from that."

"Turtlenecks, fringe, booties," Chung says of her fall fashion wishlist. "I'm talking, like, Stuart Weitzman over-the-knee boots. But there's a fine line between Pretty Woman boots and modern-day, stylish boots. It's about the heel and the shape of it. I think if it's slim and feminine it's all good, and it's a given that you should stay away from patent leather. If you follow those easy guidelines, you can avoid looking like Julia Roberts."

Hailing from the heart of the South and cutting her teeth on the mean streets of New York, Meghan has six years of experience covering fashion, style, celebrities, culture, and human behavior. A longtime devotee of rap music, tacos, and generally perfect weather, she is excited to put down roots in Los Angeles. Her top three style staples are a good pair of cutoff shorts, virtually any kind of colorful digi-print, and a solid set of shades.
