The $30 Dress I'm Wearing to 5 Events in a Row
This holiday season, I'm taking a different approach with my outfits. Instead of going out and buying a whole new wardrobe just because I have a zillion events filling up my calendar, I'm narrowing my holiday attire down to one hero piece: the Long Sleeve Wrap Tie Knit Dress ($30) from our Who What Wear collection at Target. If you looked up the definition of "versatile clothing" in the dictionary, chances are you'd find this dress—it's that solid. I'm putting it to the test by planning all my upcoming holiday events around it.
In fact, I'm showing you five different ways I'll be wearing this dress to five different occasions. With its long sleeves and midi length, it's the ideal silhouette for chilly December evenings. But it's unlike any of the other LBDs in my closet thanks to the wrap-tie detail and asymmetric hemline, which give the dress some interesting dimension. From striking the right balance of polished and festive for my office holiday party to going all-out glam for New Year's Eve, see all the outfits I have up my sleeve with this impossibly versatile dress.
The Event: Office Holiday Party
My office hosts an annual holiday party, and it's usually the first event of the season. So as far as outfit planning goes, this will my first look with the dress, and I kept it simple to really let the dress shine, adding key party-ready accessories like a chain-strap bag and silver mules.
The Event: Family Gathering
My family's Christmas gathering involves a sit-down dinner, so I wanted this look to be polished by comfy. I swapped my heels for a pair of fancy flats and threw a boxy blazer on top. The cut of my blazer hit right at the knotted detail on the dress, so if you're wearing a jacket with it, I recommend a cropped style.
The Event: Reunion with Friends from Home
Any trip home for the holidays involves a reunion with my high school crew. Here, I styled the dress for a casual night out with friends, opting for chunky combat boots and a trendy handbag. The look proves that this dress really can go from dressy to casual—it's all in the styling.
The Event: Last-Minute Holiday Shopping
No matter how many times I promise to get ahead on my shopping, I always find myself running around town at the last minute, and need a look that's both easy and stylish for the (inevitable) occasion. I went with my go-to combo for off-duty days—a midi dress and sneakers—and added fun socks and a cozy jacket to give it a holiday spin.
The Event: New Year's Eve
Last (but certainly not least) is my most glamorous look with the dress. To ring in the New Year, I accessorized the simple black dress with some shimmery earrings and a sequin bag and finished it off with strappy sandals.
