So, London Girls Are Clued In on These 5 Unique Styling Hacks
With London Fashion Week in full swing, more and more street style images of girls in the UK capital are surfacing with every show. And we can’t help but notice that Londoners sure do seem to know what they’re doing when it comes to dressing. While street style is fun to look at, as fashion weeks continue, it can become a bit tiring.
That’s not to say we don’t appreciate the creativity that goes into expertly-crafted outfits for attending shows; but rather, street style isn’t always immediately applicable to everyday styling. So we decided to look elsewhere for inspiration: some of London’s best-dressed fashion girls. By scrolling through London fashion girls’ Instagram accounts, we've compiled a list of tips based on what we saw these outfit experts doing. Though each of these style stars definitely has a distinct taste, these commonalities are great jumping-off points for your autumn outfits.
You can never go wrong in All black
If there’s one easy takeaway from London fashion girls’ Instagram accounts, it’s that opting for an all-black outfit is always an easy way to look pulled together and sophisticated. Mix it up by incorporating different textures, and make sure you wear enough pieces to make the outfit interesting, rather than boring. A coat, jeans, and top are really all you need to pull of this high-end aesthetic.
Sweater + Skirt = Easiest Outfit Formula Ever
If you had any reservations about pairing your oversize sweater with a feminine skirt, one look at these fashion girls’ outfits will have you reevaluating. Despite the fact that these two staple pieces may seem contradictory at first, the clashing effect makes for a cool-girl outfit that looks both fashionable and unexpected.
Add a Bright coat for a pop of colour
While London (and it’s fashion) gets a reputation for being all-grey all the time, these Londoners have proven that colour is a welcome addition to otherwise neutral outfits. The trick here is to not go overboard. Keep the rest of your outfit simple, and add a statement coat for a sophisticated pop.
A little Velvet goes a long way
When in doubt, add velvet. Nothing vamps up an outfit like an interesting texture, and velvet is one that immediately looks luxurious. Even with a pair of ordinary blue jeans, a velvet top or blazer adds just the right amount of intrigue to what would otherwise be an everyday outfit.
Don’t be afraid of Clashing prints
It may sound odd at first, but clashing prints look so cool together. By mixing prints with other patterns, a simple outfit gets transformed into something much more interesting. If you’re hesitant to try it, a good place to start is with stripes and leopard print—it’s basically a neutral, anyway.
