Loewe's Tank Top Is Back in Stock—I Still Think It's a Smart Buy

Here on the Who What Wear fashion desk, we usually live by the rule that three is a trend. Three sightings of an item or design feature and it’s officially ‘a thing’. But how many sightings does it take to make a cult buy? 10? 20? We’ve never put an exact number on it, I guess it’s more of a gut feeling we get when an item starts repeatedly cropping up everywhere we look—permeating street style images, our Instagram feeds and TikTok FYP, and then eventually real life encounters, too. Whatever the requirements are—Loewe’s logo tank top ticks them all off.

First appearing on the luxury label’s spring/summer 2022 catwalk, it was unsurprisingly picked up straight away by the industry’s most stylish. It proved especially popular with the wave of minimalist influencers that showed how to incorporate the style into our everyday wardrobes. And so, of course, when the tank finally landed in stock it sold out instantly. Last year the tank was like gold dust, and with every new colour and iteration that arrived a race to the checkouts followed.

Unlike some cult buys where the initial buzz wears off after a year or so, the popularity of Loewe’s tank top doesn’t seem to have waned one bit as we head into summer 2024. It’s still the number one item on my summer wish list, and I know for a fact that I’m not alone. This tank has sold out more times than I care to count—but, luckily, it's now back in stock in all colours on the brand's site.

The genius of this piece lies in its simplicity. I don’t know about you, but tank tops make an appearance in 95% of my outfits from the first day of spring onwards, and all the way through to winter as a base layer. To elevate something so simple, so essential to the everyday wardrobe, with the brand’s quiet luxury anagram logo (recognisable only to those in the know) is an incredibly smart move from creative director Jonathan Anderson.

Now, you might think it ridiculous to spend £325 on a tank top—but hear me out. This year I reframed my approach to my wardrobe to actually invest in the things that I know for a fact I’ll wear on repeat, rather than more statement one-off items. Reformation’s wide leg trousers, Doen's versatile dresses and Loewe's Puzzle bag, for example. And although it seems like an investment to start with, I know the cost per wear for Loewe's tank top will get smaller and smaller with each passing day. When something so easy to wear (and without a four figure price tag) can elevate your wardrobe so swiftly, it’s a no brainer in my eyes.

Keep scrolling to shop the Loewe tank top while you still can, and see plenty of outfit inspo from those that already own it, to inspire you for the year ahead.
