I Suddenly Need the Bag I Haven't Owned Since High School
Welcome to Runway Matters, where we're delivering notes straight from the runway so you can quickly digest the most important trends and noteworthy moments from the shows.
Each lucky attendee at Loewe's F/W 18 show during Paris Fashion Week received a copy of one of five classic novels: Madame Bovary, Wuthering Heights, Dracula, Heart of Darkness, or Don Quixote. The literary gift was inspired by the brand's latest campaign, in which the iconic books made cameos alongside the models.
It was fitting, then, that one of the standout accessories from the show was perfectly designed to hold all these novels (and much more): oversize leather backpacks. Rendered in white, camel, navy, and black, the backpacks were styled with gauzy dresses, cool track pants, and more. In other words, I need to get my hands on one ASAP. Read on to see the trend in action, plus other highlights from the show.
Back to School
If you're like me and haven't owned a backpack since high school, these perfect looks will convince you to change that.
Suit Up
Loewe wants you to rethink the pantsuit. "Deconstructing notions of tailoring, the pantsuit is rendered fluid in wool jersey, silk jacquard, and field checks with sack pockets or a kimono sleeve," the press release reads.
Statement Sleeves Still Reign Supreme
Yes, statement sleeves are as important as ever, and we're dying to try Loewe's polished versions.
All in all, Loewe certainly didn't let us down when it came to covetable accessories and smart styling tips—but did you expect anything less?
Erin got her start as a Who What Wear intern over 14 years ago—back when the site only published a single story per day. (Who What Wear has since increased that number twentyfold.) She graduated magna cum laude from USC, which is how she ended up moving to Los Angeles from her hometown of San Diego. In college, she also interned at Refinery29, where she was promoted to editorial assistant and then assistant editor. After nearly three years at R29, she came back to WWW in 2016, where she currently holds the title of Associate Director of Fashion News (as well as the unofficial title of resident royal expert—in case you haven't noticed her numerous Kate and Meghan stories). She spends her days trying to incorporate her idols, Anna Wintour and Roger Federer, into as many stories as possible.
