Fashion Girls Take Selfies Like This Now, and It's Giving Us a New Perspective
We’ve noticed a new selfie trend while scrolling through Instagram, and chances are, you’ve seen this too (whether or not you’ve realised it yet). As opposed to perfectly done-up selfies, fashion girls seem to be focusing on a new perspective—and it’s one that feels very real and relateable.
Rather than perfectly posed #OOTDs, we’re starting to see a lot more legs-down selfies. Think of these as the photos you accidentally take of your feet when you first open Snapchat and it’s not on the selfie cam… except, these ones are intentional. It makes sense, when you think about it. After all, we don’t spend all day staring at our outfits in the mirror—but we are able to look down and check our look throughout the day—which is exactly what these selfies feel like.
Not only do these downward-angle snaps feel much more authentic, as they are less posed, but they also show off the outfits much more. In a typical selfie, only so much of someone’s style actually comes through in the picture. Usually, just shoulders up.
If we’re going to get political about it… we could say that maybe this is a good sign for fashion. We’re turning away from the idea that beauty is only found in a pretty face, and embracing individuals’ unique personal styles. In legs-down selfies, the name and reputation is thrown aside (it’s hard to identify someone based on their legs alone) and the fashion is able to really shine through. The next time you want to show off your look on an Insta post, consider taking your selfie like this to give your followers a chic, new perspective.
