The sandals I am wearing to the first day of London Fashion Week will definitely not please everyone. They are the ultimate "ugly" shoe, with a thick spongey sole, oversized straps that are covered with a sparkly navy and silver bouclé and little metal stud fastenings that are fashioned into eagles (yes, really). They are a tweed pair of sliders, if you will—the ultimate yet unexpected option for when we’re bridging two seasons.
The reactions I have had to these shoes so far have been polarising: Two friends have bought them while others have said things far too extreme to write down here. However, it would appear that fashion editors are in agreement: Kurt Geiger London's Orson sandals are a great—if totally wild card—buy.
Only two hours into London Fashion Week's first day and I’ve already spotted four other industry insiders wearing them, including someone sat next to me at a show this morning. The other journalist on the other side of us said, "I nearly wore them today too!” and we all know that three is a trend…
I've discovered that these chunky sandals look great with tailoring, so I decided to style mine today with a navy Kitri suit, but I’ve seen other editors wear them with midi dresses and jeans, indicating they're surprisingly versatile for a "Marmite" shoe choice. In fact, these are the first ugly sandals I have ever been brave enough to wear out in public, and I have found them so much easier to pair with multiple outfits than I initially thought.
In addition, my feet are like tissue paper, and so finding a pair of new shoes that don’t give me blisters is always a near-impossible task. But these might just be the comfiest shoes I own. Sold?
