We’ve all been at the point when work starts to pile up, schedules become more jam-packed, and our desires to take care of ourselves inadvertently fall by the wayside. For Koya Webb, a renowned holistic health coach, author, and yoga instructor, morning self-care rituals are so important that they've become the foundation to everything else she does throughout the day.

As the founder of Get Loved Up, a wellness community and yoga school, it's her job to practice what she preaches and to advocate for others to prioritize daily acts of self-care. Keep scrolling to see the essential wellness rituals that keep Webb grounded and at peace in the mornings.

5:45 A.M.

I like to wake up with the sun wherever I am. Even if I go to bed at 3 a.m., I wake up with the sun and take a nap later in the day if I need it.

6 A.M.

I light a candle and set my intentions for the day. We are constantly surrounded by noise, and it’s never been more important to make time to better our minds.

I pour myself lime water, which is 16 oz. of water, the juice of one lime, and a pinch of cayenne pepper. I take that to cleanse my body after being asleep for so long and flush all the toxins out of my body. It really helps get my body ready for digestion for the day. I then head out for a morning walk and then to my yoga practice, which is usually in my living room.

7 A.M.

A walk outdoors by the water is so peaceful and grounding. My morning breath work, yoga, and meditation are all I need to maintain my peace throughout the day. It can last from 30 minutes to two hours; anything less and I make no promises for high vibes. So the bare minimum is breath work, or I have to stay home and rework my day.

8:15 A.M.

Nothing’s better after a morning flow than an invigorating shower. I try to dry-brush at least once a week and take a cool shower as often as possible because that really gets your lymphatic system moving. It’s a good detox, and it also closes your pores. So not only does it benefit your lymphatic system, but it’s also great for your skin.

9 A.M.

Once I hop out of the shower, I eat my breakfast. I usually have my superfood protein smoothie and a handful of almonds. I like to practice mindful eating daily. By being intentional with your eating, you see food as a way to nourish your body, and that can have a profound impact on our overall well-being. Snacks that are high in fiber and offer plant-powered protein and good fats are the secret to my success.

 For example, I regularly rely on whole natural almonds, unsweetened dried fruits, and a few pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds—putting them together in a simple trail mix is all I need when hunger strikes. If you’re more of a savory snacker, I recommend checking out my Party in a Bag recipe.
