The Different Stages of Kim Kardashian's Style Evolution
One thing has remained a constant in Kim Kardashian West’s style over the years—she’s always perfectly groomed and polished, even if the look she’s going for is ‘undone’, she still manages to look supremely put-together.
It’s no secret Kim has undergone an extreme makeover since Kanye West came into her life— there was an immediate change to her style when the couple first got together in early 2012, but how has it evolved since then? Major life changes often lead people to alter their appearance. How many of your friends (or you?) have chopped or dyed their hair after a break up? Who else has started to wear pieces they never thought they would as they’ve gotten older? In the space of a few short years, Kim has gone through a few major milestones, and each one saw her style evolve once more.
Kim has had four distinct style eras, and today, we’re taking you through each one, showing you the most memorable (and best) looks in each era to honour her birthday today. Kim, if you’re reading, we

Pre-kanye west
Kim Kardashian West's star began to rise in 2011 (around the time she was briefly married to Kris Humpheries), and she started to get snapped out in public more and more, meaning she definitely raised the bar when it came to her outfits. Kim's pre-Kanye West style was a mixture of business-y and very lady like—wide leg pants, blazers, and figure-hugging dresses (often in bright colours or poppy prints).
POST-KANYE WEST
If you're a Keeping Up With The Kardashians fan, you'll remember the episode where Kanye West appeared with his stylist and overhauled Kim's wardrobe. The result? A lot of leather basics (skirts, blazers, leggings), and a neutral colour palette with lots of chunky gold jewellrey. This is around the time Kim started to get noticed for her style (and with good reason, we'd still wear any one of these outfits).
POST-NORTH WEST
After the birth of her first child, daughter North West in June 2013, Kardashian West overhauled her style once again. Kim revisited her figure-hugging days, but this time, she opted for a muted colour palette—beige, khaki, creams, and paired her looks with sleek stiletto heels (good-bye platforms and wedges).
POST-SAINT WEST
2016 has easily been Kim's sexiest year. She's taken some major risks (velour tracksuit, anyone?), and always owns her look and pulls it off. The common theme? She's clearly seeking inspiration from the '90s, and is influenced by Kanye's label, Yeezy, often snapped wearing his pieces.
