These 8 Basics Are the Secret to Kendall Jenner's Autumn Wardrobe

I'll go ahead and say it: Kendall Jenner’s wardrobe is nothing if not versatile. One day the model might be at fashion week in the last It dress, and the next she’s dashing around the streets of New York in Gazelles, wide-leg jeans and a knit vest. Since she's a fashion chameleon who clearly loves to experiment, it's often just as fun for us to wait with bated breath for her next new look as it is for her to wear them. And as last week, Jenner was having a low-key week in Los Angeles with her very famous family, what better time to look back through some of her best recent outfits in anticipation of what she might wear next?

Unexpectedly, the majority of Jenner's most covetable looks are her off-duty ensembles that rely on a few key basics. She is most likely to been seen dressed down on her days off, opting for relaxed looks with a menswear-inspired charm. But when she glams up, she really knows how to up the ante, and whether it be adding a heeled boot or covetable It bag, Jenner nails the kind of effortless polish that I'm feverishly taking notes on.

So whether you're in Calabasas or Croydon, keep scrolling to see the few key staples that she comes back to time and again and how she managed to create an autumnal wardrobe of reliable basics that work every single time.

STRAIGHT-LEG JEANS

Style Notes: Remember when Kate Moss's skinny jeans were all the rage? I think I may have repressed the memory of trying to fit into spray-on denim. But with a new legion of supermodels comes a new brand of off-duty style, and thankfully for us, it has a far more relaxed feel, as does the denim. If you spot Jenner in jeans, it's likely that they're going to be the high-waisted, straight-leg jeans that are the look du jour.

KNEE-HIGH BOOTS

Style NotesWe're all currently boot obsessed, and with none more so than the knee-high. Loved by models, editors and influencers alike, the tall boot always manages to feel the right amount of dressed up and business ready without looking out of place.

LEATHER TROUSERS

Style Notes: You simply cannot go wrong with leather trousers. The key is just finding the right fit. Jenner's go-to is a looser-fit straight-leg style (yes, in denim and leather alike), but there's also an abundance of kick-flare, cropped, wide-leg and skinny styles on the market now, so there's pair for every body, size and style.

MAXI COATS

Style Notes: If you want to find the next big trend, my advice is to go supersize. Maxi skirts, dresses and coats always create a striking silhouette (just take a look at Zoë Kravtiz's Olsen-esque maxi cardigan for further proof), and Jenner's olive coat is just the right combination of colour and cut to feel like a fresh trend while still having a classic touch.

KNITTED TOPS

Style Notes: Tanks, vests, cardigans… if you can knit it, Jenner's got it, and if there's any comfortable piece we can get behind, it's a knitted top. It's been a while since we've seen Jenner in a big, chunky cable-knit jumper (likely to do with the L.A. weather), but it's clear she does have an affinity for layering fine and ribbed knits and wearing with elegant accessories. BRB, just off to search for some silver pumps.

BOXY BLAZERS

Style Notes: The wardrobe staple that we can rely on. We're convinced that the blazer deserves icon status given the myriad of ways we keep thinking of wearing it, and they all still feel brand new. Whether you go low-key in jeans and a tee à la Jenner or dress it up with, well, dresses, the blazer is easily one of the most versatile pieces to invest in, no matter the season.

SHACKETS

Style Notes: If you didn't invest in a shacket during the transitional in-between, don't worry. There's still time. Over the last few months of navigating fluctuating temperatures, the shacket has been the key piece that saw us through the not-quite-cold September, but as we edge towards a chilly November, you can layer it up underneath your wool coat and scarf.

LEGGINGS

Style Notes: Yes, you can wear leggings outside of the gym, and Jenner wears them not only casually but also dressed up for evening. Look out for good-quality fabrics that won't go sheer when stretched or lose their shape when washed, and I promise you'll be so comfortable you'll think twice before reaching for a pair of jeans.
