Big Changes Are Coming to J.Crew
J.Crew fans, today is a good day. The brand announced that Johanna Uurasjarvi will be the company’s new chief design officer. While Uurasjarvi does not hold the exact same title as Jenna Lyons did, who was the president and executive creative director, she will be overseeing the overall design direction for J.Crew, Crewcuts, and Mercantile. It remains to be seen if her impact and persona will be as widely felt as the much-loved Ms. Lyons, but we’re all excited for a new chapter of the classic American brand. While we wait until her first collections for the brand debut (2019!), brush up on your knowledge of the new chief design officer.
1. Uurasjarvi’s last position was creative director at West Elm. While at West Elm, she worked with J.Crew’s current CEO, Jim Brett.
2. Jim Brett has very high hopes for the partnership: “Johanna is a visionary with impeccable taste who will undoubtedly inspire our team, our partners and our customers.”
3. Before West Elm, Uurasjarvi was the executive creative director of product design at Anthropologie. Remember the brand Leifsdottir? That was also her brainchild.
