7 Reasons Jennifer Aniston's Skin Is So Incredible at 50
She might have been serving up amazing hair looks for over 25 years but Jennifer Aniston is actually one of my most-followed celebs for another reason: her incredible skin. The Friends star might have turned 50 this year, but her glowing skin looks just as amazing as it did when she first graced our screens as Rachel Green back in 1994. Yes, I might be 20 years her junior, but my skin could do with taking a complexion lesson, or seven, out of Jennifer Aniston's book.
Luckily, over the years, Aniston has spilled the beans on everything from her favorite products to the weekly routines that she relies on to keep her skin looking its best. With the A-lister on everyone's radar right now after she (finally) joined Instagram this week, I thought it was about time I collated all of her skincare advice into one place.
Keep scrolling for the inside scoop on Jennifer Aniston's skincare routine and to shop the products that she swears by for luminous skin.
#1. She's obsessed with skincare gadgets.
After being put off more extreme in-salon facials, Jennifer prefers to opt for at-home skincare gadgets to keep her complexion glowing, she revealed in Vogue. "I'm obsessed with the science bit," Aniston says of her skincare leanings.
"I had a laser treatment about 10 years ago that just bloodied my face for about a month. It was way too aggressive and that’s when I realized that what might work in the short term can be damaging in the long run."
Jen swears by this 24-karat gold-plated facial sculpting tool from celebrity makeup artist Jillian Dempsey for its smoothing, toning, and tightening abilities. It's great to use first thing in the morning too, thanks to the way it reduces puffiness and signs of tiredness around the eyes.
"I have never seen such a result from a little machine like that," Aniston says of this hi-tech tool from celebrity facialist Melanie Simon. (Whose other A-list clients include Busy Phillips, Sarah Paulson, Eva Mendes, and more.) This facial tool delivers small electrical currents to your skin that encourage cell regeneration and collagen production for more radiant-looking skin.
When asked how she looks so damn good at the crack of dawn, Aniston credited one hi-tech tool: "cryo sticks," she said. Pop these in the freezer overnight and then use them to massage in your skincare products in the morning. The cold temperature helps to firm and tighten the skin, reduce inflammation, and de-puff any areas of congestion for more wide-awake skin.
#2: She indulges in a weekly pamper day.
Yes, it turns out that even celebrities need a little self-care sometimes. "Sunday is my spa day," Aniston told Shape. "I usually do a little mini facial time where I just give myself a good scrub, use a mask, and then the new Aveeno Hydrating Facial."
"I leave it on overnight and when I wake up I have that dewy, glowing, twinkling skin," said Aniston of this hydrating moisturizer.
#3: She has an infrared sauna in her house.
Okay, so this might not be one for us normal folk, but it turns out that Aniston was converted to the skin benefits of using an infrared sauna by her Friends co-star Courtney Cox.
"I have an infrared sauna that I fell in love with. My friend Courteney Cox—you may know her—had a portable infrared sauna that you go into," Aniston told Shape. "It kind of looks like a little igloo. It's such a game changer in terms of your skin detoxification and cell rejuvenation. So that I do a couple times a week right after I do the gym. I've noticed a real change in my energy, and my sleep, and my skin."
If you haven't got space for an infrared sauna in your one-bedroom apartment, then this beauty-editor favorite delivers similar results—and takes up way less space. It uses red and blue LED lights to penetrate the skin to fight acne-causing bacteria and stimulate collagen to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
#4: She swears by SPF.
Despite being a self-confessed California girl, Jennifer Aniston told Forbes that she's been spending less time in the sun recently. "I've been taking a break from the sun for the last couple years, and that might be a permanent one," she said.
To protect her skin from the L.A. sunshine when she is out and about though, she applies not one but two SPFs.
"I use my Aveeno Daily Radiance Moisturizer, which has SPF 15—I usually mix into that the Aveeno sunscreen 30," Aniston explained.
"So I mix them together and put them on my face; psychologically, it doesn’t make me feel like I’m loading on layers and layers of cream. That’s about it," said Aniston of her SPF routine.
#5: She uses self-tan for a safe glow.
Jen's skin always looks amazingly radiant and she credits the sun with providing "that vitamin D for a glow and your mood." However, talking to Vogue, Aniston revealed that she's definitely shifted her habits. "I know I can't do it [sit in the sun] all year round, and I have become a fan of body bronzers and spray tans."
Aniston previously revealed to Redbook that she loved the (now discontinued) L'Oréal Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Towelettes. However, these glow pads from Dr Dennis Gross make a great alternative. Not only do they exfoliate skin and speed up cell renewal, but they imbue skin with a golden glow in just three to four hours.
#6: Her magic skincare formula = sleep + water.
Read any interview with Jennifer Aniston on her beauty secrets and she'll likely credit her A-list glow with two things—sleep and water. "Honestly, and I've said it: it's sleep, and water water water water water," she told Forbes. "Those are the two key ingredients."
There's nothing like a stylish-looking water bottle to keep you glugging the right amount of H2O each day.
There are plenty of products on the market designed to help you drift off, but this unique spray actually helps you to stay asleep so you get your eight hours of beauty sleep.
#7: She has vitamin C for breakfast.
I'm a big fan of applying vitamin C to my skin but Jennifer swears by sprinkling it onto her breakfast to help create her glow from the inside out. "I make a quick shake with protein powder, spinach, maca powder, berries, and vitamin C powder I put in there that's pretty good," Aniston told Shape.
Mix this potent blend of vitamin C, vitamin E and CoQ10 into water each morning to drink your way to glowing skin.
