There Are Major Changes Coming to J.Crew
Due to the influence of their uber-cool creative director Jenna Lyons, J.Crew came to develop an unexpected high-fashion edge over the last few years. But according to an announcement from J.Crew CEO Mickey Drexler yesterday, the once strictly classic brand has decided to return to its roots. According to Fashionista, the trendier products will become less prevalent, receiving “a smaller percentage of the company’s investments…and [accounting] for a lesser per cent of public perception.”
Instead, the brand will shift its focus back to its famous heritage wear: cashmere sweaters, blazers, and denim. This emphasis will be carried over to J.Crew Mercantile, the brand’s new lower-priced line that is available in all factory stores and a one-off Dallas location.
Naturally, we’ve enjoyed the high-fashion focus at J.Crew over the years, but the retailer's classic items have always been standbys, too. It will be super interesting to see how this transition plays out over the next few months.
