5 Interior Trends We Can't Stop Clicking on This Season
While our wardrobes experienced a cooling-off period over the course of 2020 and into 2021, our homes, and everything in them, have been working overtime—quite literally. Even for those of us who wouldn't previously call ourselves interior fanatics, lockdown has inspired us to become experts in all aspects of homeware thanks to the increase in the time we've spent within our four walls. Invariably, this has caused a wave of new interior trends to flood social media, and of course, we've become adept at spotting these winning looks.
The mood of the moment seems to point to a craving for colour and personality, from the sinuosity of Gustaf Westman's wavy edge mirrors and the quirky appeal of rainbow gingham to Matilda Goad's signature scallops and the curvaceous lines of the bobbin-leg chair, it's all about creating interest and texture in our homes.
"Adding a wave, curve is such an easy way of making a boring object look individual. I think it's all about individuality at the moment," says Laura Hunter from No Feature Walls. "Mirrors are very on-trend and are a modern way of experimenting with waves, but some brands can be very expensive. You could make one using a cheap square mirror and then cutting some thin plywood to a custom shape and fitting over the square as a wiggly border. That way, you could also incorporate it into your own colour scheme. Or, for a more antique look, bobbin- and barley twist–leg side tables are a really nice and inexpensive way to add vintage shapes, and there are loads available online auction sites."
Of course, it also helps that over lockdown, there has been a rise in new independent businesses, such as Dolly Rocket London, that offer up their own unique way to brighten up our interiors. The sheer scope of the internet means that we are now able to choose from premium brands, affordable high-street options, independent labels and also vintage. So it really is worth doing your homework to find that item or trend that really speaks to you and your interior scheme. To get you started, we've rounded up five styles, in particular, that we've spotted on some of Instagram's most stylish feeds. Scroll down to see what we found.
1. Wavy Edging
Style Notes: Gustaf Westman's curvaceous and colour mirrors have become a mainstay of the Scandi-girl home, and we've seen similar wave motifs on everything from napkins to coasters.

2. Scalloped Edge
Style Notes: Matilda Goad is the queen of the scallop edge, and her raffia lampshades and flower pots have been popular among the fashion crowd.

3. Checkerboard
Style Notes: For a hit of retro charm, try adding a little checkerboard into your interiors scheme. Start small with a plate or cushion, or go all out with a checkerboard rug.

4. Barley Twists
Style Notes: The barley twist is a traditional furniture feature dating back to the 17th century. However, this year, modern designers have reinterpreted the style in quirky candles and delicate ceramics.

5. Bobbin Legs
Style Notes: The bobbin leg is another classic homeware style that has seen a surge in popularity. There are plenty of bobbin lamp bases to be found, but we have a soft spot for Soho Home's old-meets-new Dolly chair.
