I Tried This Polarising $5 Trend and Now I Won’t Wear Anything Else
It’s always around about this time of year that interest in activewear peaks; weather is warming up, layers are coming off—all the very obvious reasons you don’t need me to list here. So, whilst we may have a heavily stocked activewear closet ready to go, my guess is that this particular piece would be the last thing you’d ordinarily reach for. Bike shorts. The polarising trend that everyone from Kim Kardashian, to Ally Carey has worn.
While this trend has been warming up for quite some time, fashion month gave it a serious push—it was the uniform of choice for street stylers. When I spotted this, and all the different ways I could wear the trend, I decided it was time to dish out a whole $5 at Kmart and see what all the fuss was about.
Let me set the scene for you quickly. I’m a mum, I work from home and my allocated “getting dressed” time is the 30 seconds in between my son eating a pot plant and jumping off the coffee table. Needless to say, I need quick and easy outfit options that are comfortable, casual and yet still maintain a level of personal style. And that is why bike shorts have now become my uniform of choice. Aside from meeting my comfort requirements, I feel super on trend and are somehow (surprisingly) very chic when I wear them. Paired with an oversized white button up and gold accessories they form the basis of a stylish outfit, throw a check blazer over the top and you could even get away with wearing these to the office.
If you’re motivated enough to give this trend a run for its money, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to style, and you won’t even need to break a sweat. Now, shop a pair for yourself.
