5 Impeccable Outfit Ideas If You Only Wear Neutrals
Welcome to Before I Head Out, a monthly series in which fashion editor Anneliese Dominguez rounds up the snaps she's taken of her favorite outfits before heading out the door of her Los Angeles apartment.
Whenever I wear any color, the shock on my friends' faces is priceless. It's safe to say that I'm a neutrals girly through and through. Black, white, beige, brown—my closet is filled with all of them (and every shade in between). Am I obsessed? Maybe. But if you're thinking these colors could get boring, this is where you're incredibly wrong. Hues in this category give your outfits that low-key, quiet luxury, polished look. And they're always so easy to put together. Keep scrolling to see a few of my favorite 'fits from the past month and learn how to style your neutrals. Psst: I'll be giving tips on how to wear these specific pieces from summer to fall. You're welcome!
When I saw an image of Hailey Bieber wearing socks with her fisherman sandals, I sighed and silently saved it to my inspo board. Years ago, I would have shuddered at the thought of socks and sandals, but here I am. I'll try anything once, and… I think I liked it? Come fall, I'll be throwing a sweater over my shoulders to keep from getting chilly (even though fall in L.A. is usually the hottest weather, but that's a topic for another story).
Full skirts are the moment for fall, and I love this one from Reformation. You can really build your outfit around it. For this instance, I went with a tank and loafers, but I'll definitely be throwing on some knee-high boots, chunky knits, bomber jackets, and more. The black Bottega Veneta bag contrasted beautifully against the lighter shades of the apparel, if I do say so myself.
Okay, this taupe-ish green might not be the first thing you think of when you think neutrals, but hear me out: It's one of those colors that can go with anything, and it looks expensive. This look is perfect if you're grabbing lunch with friends or heading into a meeting. The flats are giving "put-together without trying too hard," if you know what I mean. If you're a jeans lover like I am, try swapping out your blue pair for a white or cream pair. It's still comfortable but looks like you put more effort into the outfit. And of course, the Bottega Veneta bag had to make another appearance.
This dress may scream summer, but add an oversize bomber jacket or a big leather blazer and you have the perfect summer-to-fall look. As a fan of the "wrong shoe theory," I love wearing a pair of running shoes with a dress—the contrast between dressy and casual just works.
Yes, well, this outfit might be the most "boring" of them all. But it's the outfit I find myself in so often, just in different variations! I have each of these pieces in various colors, and I love rotating them to make all sorts of monochromatic looks. It just feels chic.
