These 4 Clever Pieces Will Make You Finally Ditch Your Coat, by Angela Scanlon
Hi, Who What Wear UK Readers!
It’s that in-between time when wearing a coat is both necessary and inappropriate. We’ve been bundled in swathes of wool and cashmere, polyester and whatever that fabric is that thinks it’s silk but is actually flammable. Anyway, the point is we’ve been layered up like onions and now is the time when the peeling must begin. If you’re with me, strip! Not fully, but do start to consider lightening the load.
Gilda Ambrosio and Giorgia Tordini are scrapping the heavy layers in favour of some other, lighter options.
Click through the gallery below to see how I'll be leaving outerwear behind in favour of some alternative cover-ups…
#1: Kimonos
Dig deep into your underwear drawer and unearth the kimono that is surely lurking within. If not, get on eBay or head to your local vintage store. Wear it over a polo-neck and jeans. Underwear as outerwear is the ONE!
#2: Cardigans
There are few wardrobe staples that make you feel as safe and loved as you do when wrapped up in a wooly cardigan. It doesn’t matter what kind, it just needs to be oversize and lived-in. This is not the prissy, prim two-piece kind of cardie, it should feel less polished and more like something you would sleep in…
#3: Military Shackets
I have had a long-lasting love affair with the military shirt for decades (well, at least two), and it’s the best in-between-y pretend jacket situation there is. Roll the sleeves and add layers. You can also do this with denim or a classic check shirt for your very own Jordan Catalano moment.
#3: Zip-Up Hoodies
The zip-up hoodie is the unsung hero of the athleisure world (I don’t know what that means either). Vetements has made lo-fi sportswear seriously covetable again, so get your basics out and wear with pride.

Who is your style icon?
I can't pick just one. I like Charlotte Gainsbourg. She's brave, there's a constant tomboy streak, a nonchalance and she looks great in trousers! Lou Doillon and Alison Mosshart for similar, slightly scruffier reasons. Patti Smith, Annie Hall, Chloë Sevigny... Shall I go on?
Who are your 5 favorite people to follow on Instagram?
@ManRepeller; @PandoraSykes; @PeacockBride; @BlanaidHennessey; @MillicentHailes
What's the fashion essential you can’t live without?
Jeans. In every guise imaginable. They're the only piece of clothing I could not imagine life without... Life without denim would be depressing!
What's your desert island album?
Villagers, Becoming a Jackal; The Sound of The Smiths; The Cure, Greatest Hits.
