Non-Negotiable: Don’t Buy a Swimsuit Without This Detail
There's nothing better than summer in Australia, and with so many local swimwear brands, we're spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding what to wear on the sand.
One of our favourite fashion labels, Bec & Bridge, launched swim last year, and the new category offering is going from strength to strength. We knew the label would excel at creating swimwear—its apparel collection always hits the major trends, with quality fabrics and cuts.
Earlier this week, major Aussie retailer The Iconic, hosted the first-ever fashion show on Bondi Beach, showcasing the biggest swimwear trends this summer. Bec & Bridge took part in the extravaganza, so we grabbed one of the label's co-founders, Bec Cooper, to find out her best tips for swim shopping, and her ultimate beach essentials. Keep scrolling!
Who What Wear Australia: What excites you about being involved with THE ICONIC swimwear launch?
Bec Cooper: It’s great to be involved in such a quintessential Australian launch. Being born and currently living in Bondi, it’s exciting to see our designs on the beach I grew up on. It’s the first time a fashion show has been staged on Bondi Beach.
WWW: What’s the story behind Bec & Bridge swim? What inspired you to launch the category?
BC: Bec & Bridge Swim was a natural progression for the brand. Our girl loves summer—long days and warm nights. She’ll often be seen wearing a swimsuit underneath a dress as part of her daily wardrobe.
WWW: What is the key to achieving a great swimsuit fit?
BC: Swim fits are a lot trickier than ready-to-wear fits! Every millimetre counts. Shop for great quality fabrics—they help guarantee a perfect fit.
WWW: How do you ensure the Bec & Bridge swim line caters to every woman? BC: We are lucky that we have so many girls working at the Bec & Bridge office, all with different body types. We make sure we have enough styles for everyone to be able to fit several suits that suit them.
WWW: What are your top five beach essentials?
BC: A great book, sunscreen, sunglasses, a big hat, and plenty of beach toys for my toddler.
WWW: What are your favourite pieces from the collection?
BC: I love the Moon Sisters Bandeau Set ($200), a simple black bikini with a little detailing is a summer essential.
WWW: Where are you excited to travel this summer?
BC: I’m having a baby in March so keeping it local this summer but will definitely be going for a few weekends away along the coast.
WWW: What’s next for Bec & Bridge?
BC: I’m looking forward to exciting retail plans in 2017.
