If there's one thing we love here at Who What Wear, it's dressing up for the holidays. But that doesn't necessarily mean sparkly party 'fits. (Although we do love those.) Right now, we're all about the chill, cozy weekend vibes. My co-workers always inspire me when I'm thinking of outfits for the week, especially during the holiday season, and right now, there's a slew of looks to pull from.

According to editors Aniyah MoriniaMichaela Bushkin, and Natalie Gray Herder, there's one retailer who consistently nails affordable holiday looks: Walmart—specifically the Free Assembly collection. It's their go-to when looking for affordable and chic outfits they can wear on repeat throughout the countdown to 2023. The brand's winter collection is chock-full of the best micro-trends (including pops of color and puffers), so why wouldn't I try it out for myself? Below, you'll find three looks they each put together, all of which I've saved for the upcoming month.

Which holiday event are you attending, and why would you wear this outfit to that event?

I love this time of year because I get a chance to go to a ton of events and really experiment with color. I would wear this dress to a work holiday party because it's conservative but still feels festive and on-trend. The sleek, structured coat adorned with pretty gold buttons makes this look feel elevated without being too corporate.

Do you have any tips for how to shop for holiday-specific looks in such a saturated market?

Without a doubt, shopping for holiday looks is the most stressful—fun, but stressful. I like to stick to my typical style and rely on color to make the outfit pop. It's no secret that red will always be a classic color for the holidays, so I opted for this cherry-red maxi dress, which is a silhouette I often go for. I love how bright and saturated this hue is. I paired it with this black coat to neutralize the look, but I love that this is a closet staple that I can wear even after the holidays.

Where will you be spending the holidays this season?

I'll be spending the holidays in Florida with my family. Contrary to popular belief, it gets quite chilly in central Florida during this time of year, so a long-sleeved dress like the ribbed one I'm wearing is absolutely perfect. I can easily throw this coat over my shoulders to get that winter look without feeling too hot.

Which holiday event are you attending, and why would you wear this outfit to that event?

I have a ton of low-key holiday events on my calendar from team lunches to movie nights with friends, so I'll be needing some easy yet polished 'fits. Enter this sweaterdress, which is not only so cozy but also quite affordable. I love a one-and-done outfit where all I have to think about is footwear. I'd also wear this dress with over-the-knee boots or loafers and tights.

I like to know the vibe of the event before formulating my outfit, and my friends have come to expect the "What are we wearing?" text from me. There's a big difference between a sequined party dress and heels and an outfit that involves knitwear, denim, and boots. I'm not the type of person who wants to show up without knowing which vibe is right for the occasion. When it comes to shopping for casual outfits this winter, Free Assembly is a go-to because it has tons of great knits and pieces in seasonal prints like plaid and Fair Isle.

Where will you be spending the holidays this season?

I'll be traveling a lot this holiday season including a trip to the mountains. This dress will definitely be coming with me because it's a great layering piece.

What holiday events are you attending and why would you wear this outfit to that event?

This year, I'm heading back to California where I'll be spending time with family at my favorite hometown spots. This easy-to-achieve outfit matches the laid-back mentality of L.A. living, so I have a feeling I'll wear it on repeat. I love a simple jean-and-sweater combo that I can dress up with accessories for a night out.

Since my holiday plans consist of a lot of travel, I tend to stick to pieces that can be mixed and matched. Honing my personal style and creating a capsule wardrobe for travel is key. Walmart's Free Assembly has the essentials I need like on-trend denim, cozy sweaters, and weather-proof outerwear that will keep me stylish from coast to coast.
