This Elegant H&M Coat Has Been Sold Out Since Last Year—Now It’s Back

Hi, I’m Emily, and I love coats. If you try to argue with me that another clothing item does more to make outfits look amazing, then we’ll probably be here a long time. As a stylist and fashion editor, I know a great coat is my secret weapon for impressing with my wardrobe. The thing is, you can be wearing the simplest pair of jeans and a T-shirt underneath, but add a smart coat, and you instantly have a pulled-together "look.”

This obsession with exceptional outerwear also means I’m seriously picky when shopping for it. Because I count on coats so much, I’m a big believer in investing in fewer really amazing styles you’ll reliably bring out year after year, which usually means I avoid the high street. But recently, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about H&M’s outerwear offering. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever come across a high-street edit that is so impressive across the board.

In particular, its wool and wool-blend styles seem to be hitting the mark and combine chicness with the timeless quality I’m looking for. There are a number of cosy styles if you’re wanting to invest in a coat to keep you warm right now (and for many winters to come), perfect for the cold front we're about to have. Having said that, there was one H&M wool coat that stood out—a roomy style in a chic beige colourway which debuted in September last year and sold out in a flash. While there has been the odd return here and there, I've been patiently waiting for the day that I could share a full restock with you. That day, dear readers, has finally come.

Worn by stylist and Threads fashion director, Hannah Lewis, it's easy to see why this H&M coat has been like gold dust to get your hands on. Timeless, elegant and compliment-inducing (Lewis says someone asks her where it's from every time she wears it, and I believe it!), this is a coat so special, I didn't think I'd ever find its like on the high street. Because of their more premium fabrications, they do come in at a higher price point than you might have come to expect from H&M, but I do think they're worth it in terms of timelessness and quality.
