This H&M Coat Is So Good, I've Already Imagined Every Way to Wear It

When our affiliate editor Emily Dawes (who is my trusted source of all things chic) brought my attention to the elegant little wool coat from H&M that I'm about to tell you about, my head was turned. It's a coat with all the vibes of a pared-back Scandi designer label but at a far more palatable price point. Yes, it is more expensive than your average H&M buy, but this is because it's part of the brand's Premium range, comprising truly impressive pieces made of better-quality fabrics. We always advise buying the best quality you can afford—especially when it comes to outerwear—so that your pieces will last you longer and make for much wiser investments.

Thanks to the exaggerated, oversized fit (we'd recommend sizing down), warm-toned camel hue, shawl collar and unlined, boiled-wool finish, this has all of the hallmarks of an elevated coat design. In Emily's own words, "This brand-new piece honestly made me gasp when I saw it appear during my daily H&M check-in, and I almost couldn't believe my eyes. It's minimalist, slouchy, buttery soft and in the most rich-looking colour you can wear for autumn."

Since we picked up on this chic style we've noticed a lot of readers doing the same and adding it to their baskets. Meanwhile, us editors have been ideating upon how we'd wear it to reflect our own personal style. My aesthetic couldn't be further from Emily's classic, minimalist wardrobe, but we can both agree on one thing: this coat is excellent and it can be styled in many different ways. So, rather than keeping these outfit ideas in my head, scroll for four ways to wear this (or any other) perfect, classic camel coat—you might even already own one you love.

1. WITH A MIDI SKIRT, CARDIGAN AND KNEE-HIGH BOOTS

Style Notes: This coat is rather sophisticated, so it makes sense to lean into its elegant feel with polished items like a neat cardigan in this season's hottest shade, sleek knee-high boots and a grown-up bag. The leopard-print skirt adds a little flavour so as to not veer into prim-and-proper territory.

2. WITH A "GROUTFIT" AND HOOPS

Style Notes: What's a "groutfit"? A grey outfit, my friends! An all-grey 'fit is one of the chicest looks you can go for this winter, and the slate shade is the perfect partner to a camel coat. I'll be wearing this combination on repeat.

3. WITH A PARTY DRESS AND SPARKLES

Style Notes: A short coat is a great option for a night out when you're planning to wear a mini hemline, be it skirt or dress. It's up to you whether or not you can brave it without tights, but if not, I'd recommend a low-denier pair for a retro feel. Add some sparkling accessories and you're good to go.

4. WITH LEATHER AND DRAPED DETAILS

Style Notes: Combine a woollen coat with other tactile fabrics such as leather or satin for a really sumptuous formula. If you wanted a casual going-out look, I'd recommend swapping the longline skirt for a pair of jeans.
