Today's a Good Day—This Cult H&M Lamp Is Finally Back in Stock
There are a few things I always rely on H&M for. For my own wardrobe, it's linen trousers—they're a secret speciality for the Scandi brand. For my toddler, I buy him bulk packs of organic cotton bodysuits and trousers in cool colours that aren't covered in tractors, diggers and other cliché "boy" things that you'll find in most stores. More recently, I've been shifting my regular H&M fashion check-ins toward its Home collection. Living in a house with far too many houseplants means I've had to find some cool, affordable pots to give these guys a home, and H&M came up with the goods via a family of retro rattan planters in three different dimensions (all sold out now, sorry), some gold and black metal styles and a few chic wooden options. But most of all, I've been waiting patiently for a little lamp to come back into stock…
The table light in question is a very expensive-looking one considering its £70 price tag. With a wavy stand and wide, low-spreading pleated shade, it has all the hallmarks of a designer piece with the added benefit of being pretty unassuming and easy to slot into a variety of interior aesthetics. The gold version sold out all too quickly, and you can be notified for a restock (see below), but the piece is now available in a black-and-white finish. You'll also find a matching wall sconce and ceiling light in gold should you be in the market for a full overhaul.
The trend for wavy-based lamps should be accredited to a rising interior design star named Oscar Piccolo, whose charming luxury creations, called the Lampada Cappello, are entirely sold-out at his digital store. They have been spotted in the coolest corners of Instagram. Starting at around £185, they are clearly in a different league and are likely to become collector's items in the future, such is their popularity at the moment. Additionally, there are archival references that are worth knowing should you want to buy this trend secondhand via antiques: The postmodern Memphis era would've featured wavy-based lamps, and some simpler styles date way back to the mid-century. The overarching trend here is actually the shift toward pleated lampshades—a look that hasn't been popular for a few decades now, and one that has suddenly infiltrated the coolest homeware brands.
